Knives and flashlights ( traditional )

Maybe take a look at these:
Thanks mate, looks like the prices have dropped a bit, but they still seem to be lacking in terms of performance. The small, and relatively inexpensive, OLight, in my pic earlier, has 1000 lumens, and a range of other good features

The thing I like about maglite is the simplicity ( not interested in " features " ), and the fact that they have a pretty good throw, not as good as a cheap flashlight with the zoom lense but surprisingly decent all things considered.
I can't deny that there are better options, I just still have a place for maglite.
When I don't over think it and just need to shine some light on something an LED maglite still gets the job done.
I'm not ready to completely leave them behind yet, but I understand why many have and don't fault anyone for it.

Believe it or not, I managed to lose not one but TWO 6D Maglights. How someone forgets an ~18" long, 2lb flashlight, I don't know, but I did. Loved them when I had them, though.
Can't believe I missed your post, Shawn; must be sort of like how you lost a couple of big Maglites! 🤓

My 6D was once wrapped in anti-slip tape and both the 6D and 5C had at one time thick rubber O rings located near the cap end to increase grip options. They improved the grip no end, but that was back in the day.
...
Those sound like good ideas for improving grip, David.
Now that I'm wearing gloves to take the dog out in the dark, the Maglite seems even more slippery.

...
Take out the batteries, and replace with concrete! ;) :D
There's a thought! 😁
And I could reduce my battery budget a bit!:thumbsup:

After 18 years of service my good old Arc flashlight is out of order. The thread of the switching head is worn and i can't keep the flashlight on without pushing the head towards the battery container.

I've got this Olight. Inexpensive and no useless features. Two level of brightness, 180 lumens which are well enough for a pocket flashlight and more important a low mode 5 lumens i use most of the time.

It doesn't help i'm a bit sad to put the Arc in the box of broken, worn and unusable items.

Dan.

I've never heard of ARC, but apparently they still make them and they're only about $30 too.

For what i know Arc went out of business years ago. Too bad. The Arc AAA i own is considered by many experts as being a mile stone, one of the very first high performance Led flashlight. I do like the design.

They still have an active website.

I accidentally ordered this one which just arrived today.

The intention was to order the 6D cell model and add an LED upgrade from LITT industries, along with a 2d extension to make myself a ridiculous 8D cell flashlight for no reason other than fun.

Somehow I accidentally ordered this one when trying to get the discount code to work ( same price, no big deal ), so I will use the extension to make a 5d out of the 3d I have and use the NITE-IZE led that's currently in it with one of the old eveready lights I have.

It's not the most ideal, but in the end the new LED bulb is only rated for 6D max anyways and I'm not sure what 8 would do to it.
I was curious to see since the LITT led was inexpensive , but I'll have to do that another time.

I just received the LITT led, it's a major upgrade. For some reason it doesn't work with the extension and 5 batteries, even though it's within the 6d limit.

What is it cool white ?

I never really pay attention unless it's a cheapo with a hateful blue-ish tone to it, I can't stand those.

It’s cool white but the green tint is the thing that kinda bugs me. More so with a brass light, it’s just a weird combo.

The light I enjoy most is this surefire 6P with a malkoff M61WLL LED drop in. It’s 80 lumens, runs for 10 hours or so, and has the same tint as the original incandescent lamp. The beam profile is an excellent combination of flood and spot and it’s just extremely pleasant. Such quality is well paired with a nice old bone handle schrade walden.

To improve grip on my Maglites, I use Wilson tennis racket (sic) overgrip wrap, 3 for $3.23 at Walmart, or Wilson replacement grip (thicker) 1 for same price. A lot easier than trying to slide on a bicycle innertube.
