Isn't the fad for skulls, on knives, sheaths, lanyards, (not getting into firearms here) about run it self to death? Has it not finally gone from stylish to childish? For me it's the kiss of death for the desire own any of the knife and related gear so adorned. I think the 'Punisher' skull is the most ridiculous.

I don't see it ending anytime soon. Skull symbols have been used since the dawn of time.

That's cool 👍

I have a different opinion, neither of us is wrong.

Whenever I see threads like this I think of two things. The first being this:

The second being, "Great here we go again. Another thread about differing opinions." I get that this is a knife discussion forum, but seriously, this is what you want to talk about? But let's humor OP for a bit. The skull has been used as a symbol for ages and ages. Often used as a projection of power and strength. The knife dates back easily as long and used a tool and as a weapon. Is it that crazy that there may be an association between the two?

Of course it seems a bit faddish by modern standards. But symbolism and use go back too long for it to be considered a fad. Sorry, OP. It's like yelling at a cloud. And this is my attempt at a objective .02 on a very subjective matter.

Small correction: it was childish from the get-go. You cannot teach taste. And there's nothing wrong with poking fun at other people's bad taste. You (by "you" I mean anyone reading this) do it too.

Well, you could always just not read it or comment in it. Or just wait for threads that do not differ with your opinion...I'm sure those wont be an issue and you won't have to "humor" the silly people who open them! :D

As far as the skulls thing? I think its stupid. Silly. Chairborne types flicking their skull knives while sitting on the couch watching The Bachelor.

And worse than the "punisher" skulls are the ones where the skull is exhibiting "rebellious" behavior! "Ohhh! Im a skull wearing a baseball cap backwards and chewing on a cigar! I dont follow the man's rules!"

Silly.

Of course, that said, people seem to like them, and buy them, and good for those people.

And talking about features of knives is exactly what this forum does. Heck, there is a thread current where people are falling all over themselves talking about a new ZT....what's new about it? The screws are green now. Didn't see WW complaining about that one! :D

I think the skulls are distasteful and silly. They won't stop me from buying a knfie, though they will give me pause.

Yep. It's always been childish.

Just look at the juvenile names of many knife companies and the many more pretentiously named models from makers of all stripes. You will never live to see the end of the faux macho skull aesthetic in the more tasteless examples put out by this industry.

Just like all of the overjugged women in comic books and "ninja stars', skulls will never go out of style with a certain type of male.

Lol...... Just for the record, I have never, ever watched an episode of The Bachelor 😀

Nothing wrong with flicking or with The Bachelor (though I'm more a Dancing with the Stars man, myself.)

I just think there is a silly disconnect between what the vast, vast majority of people do with their skull-decorated knives, and the skulls.

Though, its the same thing with "endorsed" knives.

"What do you do with your Stone Cold Steve Austin Broken Skull Cold Steel knife?"
"Uhhh....open packs of Post-Its. And Cheetos."

But....a lot about knives is fantasy and "romance", if you will. We are all suckers for it, or we'd all just have one SAK and would be done with it.

True.

If I stressed out about what anyone thought of my carry knife...I'd never admit I carry an Emerson here in General D 😮

Yup. I was just talking about this kind of thing with a buddy. He said I was crazy for spending so much on knives and I just pointed to his bookshelf full of video games. Luckily, he's got a sense of humor and he just laughed.

Basically, I don't want skulls on my knives, but it would really only upset me if they put them on all knives. For one thing a skull really would look silly on my classy, olivewood inlaid M. Nieto.

Good vs Bad taste? To each person it's own definition.
Personally, I think putting skulls on guns or knives is redundant, anyone with common sense or logic already knows they are deadly tools, don't need additional warning labels!
PS it's also silly like a grown man wearing gold chain with pendant with his own name, in case he forgets it after long night of drinking:confused:

Also, any object ex: spoons, forks, pencils, books, knives, guns, hummers, etc, with skulls or titles like "Assassin, Killer, Terminator" etc will be automatically considered by LEO's as deadly weapons and you will be automatically treated as a dangerous criminal.
Who needs hussle like that?

I really thought about it and realized that I don't care if people have/use/like knives with skulls on them.

That being said, I'm not into skulls on knives.
