Knives and skulls

Adorable is right, the Gnome is downright cute. How much more do you like the knife with a lanyard as opposed to without? A lot I'm guessing, since you've got one on?

Personally I won't begrudge others for liking that kind of thing, but I'm usually not a huge fan of it as we commonly see it in TAC-FORCE type of knives.

It adds a lot more than I thought it would in both ergonomics and appearance. It's downright ridiculous to have a skull affixed to the knife, which I quite like, and the lanyard makes it easier to draw from the sheath and allows the illusion of a four-finger grip.

It's the only knife to date that I felt was improved in any fashion by a lanyard.

I never get this line of thinking?!

If you like skulls and you like knives, and like skulls on your knives, then who am I to say it's wrong/outta style/bad taste/etc?

There is nothing on this planet that you can't find a group of people to dislike, so what does that tell you?!.........

You could pull gold and diamond encrusted unicorn knives out of your a$$ and give them away for free, and still there will be people who will complain about it...

Well said!!

I like skulls in general. Especially on my knives. I just dig that kind of thing. I'm also a fan of superheroes , Jedi and hobbits.

Right on Wolverine!
I'm surprised by the amount of snob...ish remarks...
I'm more into Road Runners & other CARtoons, but I will gladly roll up my sleeves to show my skull tat,
while helping you protect whatever you like!
I'm content knowing that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover.
Still thinking about the Sabertooth thing...

I have a skull in my head. :)
Don't care much one way or the other if it's on a knife...I certainly won't add any to one.
But I like my Junglas and it has a skull on it; it's also an awesome knife though, which is why I like it.

I never get much into putting symbols on my stuff, but if I were to I'd have to have fun. So I'd put a skull on the nich plastic handle of my SAK Explorer and then get a full sized KaBar and have a Hello Kitty embazoned on it. Now the KaBar would be fun to take to a knife fight, getting your butt whipped by a hello kitty kabar. But I've matured to the notion of knife fighting, and instead am saving up for a Barney the Dinosaur 9mm.

Also, to weigh in instead of just showing off my Gnome:

I feel that there are many motifs that I do and do not care for. Skulls are very iconic and reaonate with a lot of people for different reasons. I may think they are childish attempts at seeming edgy or dangerous, but others may see them entirely differently. Some may see them as reminders of our own mortality, some may see them as attempts to warn others to stay away, and (my assumption is that) most people like them because they think it is cool.

I do not think it is cool, but cool is relative and subjective and I can only say that I don't share that opinion as it is intellectually dishonest to assert that something that is definitively a matter of taste is also objectively "dumb" or "childish". I would say, at most, that it represents a poor choice on a manufacturer's part to make a skull an inseparable aspect of the knife's appearance if their goal is broad appeal in the knife world. The runaway success of the Chaves knives, however, makes me question that.

Right on Wolverine!

 I also have a big evil skull tattoo on the back of my neck. Wolverine was getting lonely.

I love the little skull on my Opinel Garden lanyard...

Two opposites.

I like skulls on some things, but I think we really need to address the lack of dinosaur embellishments in the knife world.

The skull printed pocket clips from Emerson is as far as I can go.

But its technically the companies logo so I'm fine with it, I prefer a plain clip and no skulls on the lanyard.

Idk but I like this logo better. In fact if they put it on a black cuffed beanie I'd buy one.

The second being, "Great here we go again. Another thread about differing opinions." I get that this is a knife discussion forum, but seriously, this is what you want to talk about?

Maybe we should have another "Which Spyderco is Best for Camping" or "Help me choose my next Benchmade" thread :D

Skulls have decorated many of our fabrications since the dawn of civilization. They're not a fad. They're both symbols of death and of life. They might seem "edgy" to some, but to others the very concept of carrying a knife at all is the same.

What better way to worship death & the potential to cause it than putting a skull on a knife? :jerkit: Wish I could find grips for my Sig that had skulls on them....:barf: jk

+10:thumbup::D I like it!

PS I was just looking at my BM-710 SE and how profile reminds me of shark and now you post this, spacibo!

I like your blade except for silly finger choil on blade:thumbdn:

It's not actually mine, just found a pic on google to illustrate it. Maybe one day... *drifts off into Busse fantasy land* :D
