Knives and skulls

This was covered at length not long ago. Most of the knife companies we all use have skulls on their knives, logos or some related thing.

In my neighborhood some people put up flags at their house, decorate their car, wear certain colored shirts or paint their bodies for a sporting event. All for some silly football team that I probably couldn't name a single player for. I think it's silly, but we all must have hobbies.

If you don't like the skull on the knife, buy the next one on your list.
Best of luck.

Or take it off! That's frequently an option. Get some custom scales or trusty sandpaper and no more skull.

I have always loved that the Japanese would build a sword or other weapon, then decorate it with flowers, waves, trees and other depictions of living nature in action. In western culture all those things aren't "manly", so our only go-tos for knives are logos that look like knives, or "scary" things like sculls, spiders, snakes, etc.

I would honestly much rather have a simple chrysanthemum on my folder clip than some testosterone hoo-ya logo. If the samurai could go about their business without that sort of thing, I'm pretty sure I can deal, too.

I have nothing against skulls...or do I? I have one knife with a skull - a Protech Doru - but I generally have no interest in in a knife or sheath with a skull on it. A skull on a fob doesn't bother me at all - I can remove it if I decide I don't want it...oddly enough, though, I won't accept a knife with a punisher clip; even if the stock clip is included. It's no trouble to change the clip, I know...I guess I just don't want the thing bouncing around, and I'd hesitate to throw it away because it's a "perfectly good clip that somebody might want".

In my opinion skulls are beautiful, like not jut on knives but in general, they are nature's artwork. That being said, i certainly dont mind a skull logo, but actually what bother me are the cartoon/fake/badly drawn skulls put on everything. I think an ultrarealistic looking skull on a knife would be great:D

Edit: except the SOG skull logo, i hate it. that is the kind of skull i cant stand

Yeah, all the samarai did was use real skulls as decor around their domicile.....

I've never seen that. Got any links?

There was "head viewing", but that was more about honoring (in a sense) and accounting for high ranking fallen enemies while they were still recognizable. Is that what you're talking about?

I'm averse to not only skulls, but titanium framelocks. Just got my DPX HEAT folder and I love the little thing. I rarely let a single feature or two drive me away from a great design.

No. I know little of samurai life. Was a joke....

I like this one a lot. The fact that I can get a full, comfortable, hand filling grip on a knife this small is bloody miraculous. Normally I'd want thinner stock and better geometry, but this thing is kind of an adorable chubby tank and that would detract a bit from the feel.

Though I may polish the clip and get rid of that little skull. ;)

Ibe never met fans quite like Starlingear. I've met more than one "Fiend" that will put aquiring a bi metal bead above all. It's crazy!

Damn right. They're wonderful. Does the HEAT feature the roto-lok?

The only thing i've ever purchased with a Skull on it was a Grateful Dead album, "Skull & Roses" That was back in the 70's.

For the most part,
When i see Skulls on knives, clothing, jewellery is reminds me of something that led to the deaths of about 30-35 million men, women 7 children in the last century depending on whom you ask.

That's my 2 cents about skull emblems
