Knives are not prybars!

Well said.

You can also be sure that anyone who promises to replace your item (whatever it is, not necessarily a knife) with no questions asked, has already built that replacement cost into the price.

If a widget is going to sell for $5 with no warranty, they may decide to include a limited warranty for $6 or a limited lifetime warranty and sell it for $7 or $8. If they are going to make a 'no questions asked' warranty, you can be sure they will be selling it for $9-$12 because they are factoring in a replacement like you basically bought 2 or more of them.

Why do you think blems with no warranties are so much cheaper? Warranties make up a significant portion of the overall price.

You are only saying "well said" because I implicated myself in being stupid, lol. But ill take it.

As ZT's #1 Fanboy, I have to be a benevolent dictator as I wield supreme executive power.

I used to think you were a zt fanboy. But the more i read from you i just think you are opinionated and are very open to expressing that opinion. And you defending zt as much as you do is based more on your principles rather than any unflinching devotion to ZT. I have a gut feeling if zt ever did do something you disagreed with you would not hesitate to say it. It just seems to me that its a matter of coincidence that you tend to side with them and it really has nothing to do with being a fanboy. A fanboy is someone who defends a company DESPITE all reason and logic. And even though you and i rarely agree (i really dont agree with many anyhow) I am not blind to the fact that you simply dont sugar coat crap and tell people its m&ms. And i respect that even when not in agreement. And i dont know why but every time i see a post from you i always envision it being said by mr potato head.

At least someone finally gets it. I tried to make this point in a prior thread and that's actually what got me called ZT's #1 Fanboy. I just ran with it.

I'm one who respects tools (knives) enough not to destroy them as a pry bar, unless it's a life-saving measure, but, if someone wants to use a knife as a pry bar, please, be my guest. I'll watch, and laugh, at a distance, or via YouTube. LOL. Just don't whine when it breaks that the manufacturer rightly won't honor the warranty.

I accidently hit the core on my apple this afternoon. Glad I was using my 0566.

I probably would be too. But apple cores aren't particularly tough, and steel blades aren't particularly weak, so it would probably be fine if it was an Opinel. My point being, advertising aside, if we're only using any knife as intended and as a cutting tool, it's difficult to say a ZT is more hard use than any other knife (I use ZT as it has been brought up so much in this thread. We could say Cold Steel, or some other brand.) I guess for me, "hard use" is essentially a misnomer in any knife marketing if you're a knife person, because you're pretty much always only going to be cutting stuff with them, in a relatively safe, tame and non-hard manner.

You used a folding knife to cut an apple?! You must like to live dangerously. That's what the ZT 0100 or 0180 are for... Or maybe the upcoming 0102... ;)

There's a reason why they don't sell folding prybars at Home Depot...

No matter how "tough" a particular folder may be comparitively speaking, there is a universal and undeniable truth...The joint securing the blade to the handle consists of one pivot screw. Additionally, the screw is loose enough to allow movement of the blade in the joint.

If someone wants to use a $240 folding knife blade secured by one loose screw to pry with...go right ahead, it's your property, your choice. I would suggest virtually anything else...screw driver, fixed blade, nail, stick....prybar...um, anything that doesn't rotate on a single loose screw.

I agree with the OP and others as well. While it is certainly someone's right to do whatever they want with their folding knife, even pry...why post about it? It only serves to inform the world of your poor choices?

Wow, this thread is still going?

Here's a picture of a Smatchet, to bump it to the top, and for the hell of it.

(You probably shouldn't use IT for a prybar, either.)

I don't know how you all manage to hit the core of an apple with your ZT. The apple always splits before I get anywhere near the core. :D

Complaining about how other use their own stuff and explaining that it causes grief in some fashion is interesting.

There are some real characters on here. Lotsa funny comments.
I wouldn't hesitate to use a knife as a pry bar in life was in jeopardy. However since those moments are few and far between especially as I get friggin older I'll just use the pry bar on my hest for rinky dink crap.
Mr potato head comment nearly put fruit stripes.in.my drawers.

Au contraire

Ive locked the keys in the car before at the grocery store and used my Cold Steel Voyager XL as a pry bar with zero issues...and that was with the blade opened, and with my own use with the Tri-Ad lock, i wasn't worried in the slightest. I had to pry the door open 2-3 inches too, worked in a pinch.
