Knives aside, what are your other hobbies??

then they served the higher purpose:thumbup::D

Joe M.,

Jill tells me my thumper riding days are over (old geezer, she adds), though Kawa has the cutest little 250 liquid cooled 'motard you ever saw... but in reference to Lyman-Morse and the composite Sports Fisherman, this sort of thing has been going on a long time. Just before I gave up honest boat work to build knives, I put a new transom on "Amelia", the only Sports F. that Trumpy ever built, a 50' mahagony on oak, twin 6-71, built in '55 for the owner of Groco. She'd do about 18 or 20 flat out, and was considered a "light weight -go fast " for her time. Plus ca change

John
Yeah...........even Huckins built a few larger Palm Beach style sportfishermen in recent years. The bad news is that a number of the traditional builders like Merritt and some of the Carolina guys have stopped building them out of wood. Other Carolina builders have gone over from juniper plank and frame boats to cold molded mahogany, but it is still a wood boat. My favorites are still Rybovich and Whiticar. My dad currently has a Viking 52 express, but his previous boat was a 1990 65' Monterey with Biven bored out and massaged 16V92's that allegedly put out about 1700hp per side. 43 knots at WOT and it didn't beat you to death like the early Jim Smiths and Montereys did. That is pretty stock performance for the custom wood boats today, but the big 75-80 footers now have 2400hp 16 cylinder 4 stoke MTU's and most of your 60-65 footers are coming with 1800hp MTU's or Cat C32's and all of them top out at 40 knots or more and will cruise all day at 35.. Our Viking has 1400hp MAN's and will top out at around 38 knots. Not too shabby for a big hunk of fiberglass.

No I don't ride that much anymore. Did some club racing years ago. Would like to get back into that but no time.
Let me tempt you further. BMW is building a chain drive 1000cc inline 4 with full Ohlins supension to compete in WSB.:D

Joe that Ducati is really sweet!

John, my first bike was a Yamaha thumper just like yours, still like them!

Here`s my latest ride, unfortunately I had to sell it when we bought our house.

So, Joe.........how long were you in the heroin smuggling business before you were able to start buying all of those cool toys?:D

:D:D I was wondering the same thing! You definitely have some fine toys. What year/model is your Porsche? I have been wanting a 911 for a long time!

That 996 is a sweeet bike for sure. I had a chance to buy a nice 916 a few years back, but realized I am too old to be on it for very long. Those Ducs have a sound like no other bike when you get the revs up.:D

I came close to buying a new BSA 441 thumper for my first bike but ended up buying a used Triumph TR6R. Matchless 500's were one of the desirable thumpers back then. No compression release and one guy I knew that had one broke his leg when it kicked back on him!

Peter no drugs for sale here:D. The 911/993 is a 97/98 last of the air cooled with a factory RS kit , By plane whale tail, exhaust and raceing pedals. I have a mint 928 s4 lieing around also with a borla exhaust and I believe they are etoille rims. The 996 was tuned by Eraldo Ferracci himself he has a shop near me and I have had Ducks since early 80 and have been useing him.

Joe would love to see BMW's entry into world super bike but GP is where it's at and Duc is running strong there last time I looked. Would love to see Rossi on one.

I figured I'd post some deployment pics as well. Not as cool as Raymond Richard's but...

I just went through the Tread from post #1 to #312...
Try doing this. It has become a truly amazing document!

But we are actually only scratching the surface of what Blade Forumites,
Knifemakers and knife collectors enjoy doing when not "playing" with their
knives....

Keep it coming From the various responses it is obvious that
I am not the only one really enjoying this....

All the best,

All this exciting motorcycle talk, and so many of you knifemakers
and collectors having these beautiful machines as a serious
hobby/ life style, reminded me of one amazing knife/sculpture
by Josef Rusnak of the Czech Republic.

We are, after all, a Custom Knife Sub Forum....

Josef Rusnak is a truly creative artist from the Czech Republic.
Can you find the 18k tire burns or the sterling silver handle
bars coming out of the cowling? Notice the bike's rear tire?

(The knife is from the collection of Don Guild, Hawaii).

Who knows, maybe one day I too will get to feel the thrill of
speeding down the highway on one of these amazing machines?

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

I recall that knife well David. It was a tribute to Indian Larry who was a well known and loved builder of custom choppers. He died a few years ago riding his bike standing on the seat. A trademark stunt he was famous for.
