Nice job!
I really like the 551A1, it is a very fine rifle in my experience. It has been 100% reliable and very accurate for the type of rifle it is, and for my money every bit as good of a performer as a Swiss 550. I hope you enjoy yours as well.Nice job!
I pre-ordered a Sig 556 at West Coast Armory back in like 2007 or whenever that was. Lance let me hold a 552 at that time and I was completely hooked. He did his best to talk me into one of those cobbled 250 West Coast Armory 551 rifles, but I couldn’t contemplate spending $2500 at that time. They were stacked on a palate in the center of his showroom. I later sold that 556 to get into one of the last CDNN 551a1.

Nice looking rifle. But not a fan of the 516 myself. Way overpriced for what it offers (at least in my neck of the woods). I jumped on one back in... maybe 2013? Shot it quite a bit before I found its weakness. Its piston system is very finicky when it comes to ammo (at least mine is). I ended up getting some dirty ammo (brass cased, but dirty powder), and in less than one 20 rd magazine, the rifle would become a straight-pull repeater. And this was even on adverse setting. The only way to get it back up and running was to pull the piston out the front and clean the gunk off it. I ended up running the rest of that ammo through a Rock River Arms DGI gun, which ate it with no problem, nary a hiccup. Best idea SIG ever had, getting rid of that design. Now the upper just sits around for the possibility of getting a can for it.WOWZA!!! THATS MY GRAIL GUN
All I could get was a sig 516, and to be honest the short stroke gas piston upper isn't really worth it considering the overall weight is like 13lbs. Im rebuilding it as a precision rifleView attachment 1928289
Working on the blackout multicam cerakote job little by little.
I know exactly what you mean if it had a long stroke gas piston or something other than just a trumped up AR15 would say it's worth it but I'm thinking I'm going to sell it and buy a BRN - 180 .300 blk pistol upper and build a new precision upper from scratch.Nice looking rifle. Yeah, mine would eat steel cases with no problem. And anything else I put in it. But God help you if you ended up with some dirty powdered cartridges.I know exactly what you mean if it had a long stroke gas piston or something other than just a trumped up AR15 would say it's worth it but I'm thinking I'm going to sell it and buy a BRN - 180 .300 blk pistol upper and build a new precision upper from scratch.
Not to mention the darn thing weights a TON. And you got the handguard it comes with and like 2 other overpriced aftermarket handguards to choose from
As far as ammo goes mine eats anything even cheap steel still. As far as ammo goes mine eats anything even cheap steel. It hardly ever jams on me aside from the rear the rare double feed or stovepipe jam But I probably put 5000 rounds through it with only a handful of jams I can actually think of 5000 rounds through it with only a handful of jams I can actually think of
I don't know the weight on the brn-180 10" but its gotta be lighter than my sig. I may just buy myself a stribog spa3 first. I've been wanting one forever but not even LEOs can get them in commiefornia. Thank God I'll be in AZ very soonYeah, mine would eat steel cases with no problem. And anything else I put in it. And yes... it's heavy.
