It was like a PKM copy or similar (I could be wrong, it was 30+ yrs ago)…
You probably meant RPK, PKM is completely different profile and animal, it shoots 7.62x54…
if your barrel is 23” or slightly shorter it is built on RPK platform. You don’t have the compensators and bayonet /cleaning rod fixture and barrel is obviously longer, on regular receiver, so it is not your everyday AK build.
And it is a great AK rifle (as most of them)
You should hold on to it, I still got mad when I remember how I sold my Bulgarian receiver built for $80 in 1995…

Yes you’re right, it’s the RPK platform with the longer barrel vs regular AK versions 👍🏼

CZ's? 550, or something like that?
They are CZ 527 carbines. I’m not sure but I think they may be out of production now. Under 6 lbs without optics. Detachable 5rd single-stack magazines. Fully adjustable set-triggers. I became obsessed with the model five or six years ago and ordered them both off gunbroker a few weeks apart. Both were allegedly unfired NOS examples. Spare magazines tend to run about $40 new. I think scope ring choices are limited to just CZ and Warne. They’re a lot of fun. Made from steel and walnut. They just feel good in the hand-very small and light and handy.
