Totally understand…I have problems with grip safety especially with Springfields for some reason…had to sell them every time I bought one…lol Still think they are cool and will eventually buy one to keep for the heck of it 😁

The grip safety (like the rest of the gun) can be tuned to your preference. I like mine to come off super quickly but without pinning them, even on my comp guns.

I would guess it rattles and clanks when shaken, BUT will fire even when thrown in mud immediately followed by mortar sand.
Great looking piece of history
That would be correct. Definitely rattles when you shake it, but feeds everything from factory ball to light plinking reloads.

Some history on it:
A very late war production from Remington Rand, that likely never went to Europe of the Pacific theater. No records of it that were available until the late 70s and early 80s, where it is recorded to have been at Guantanamo Bay until it’s relatively recent transfer to the naval arms depot in Crane, Indiana. I assume the rack number on the grips is from Guantanamo.

It was transferred to the CMP from Crane, and I was lucky to receive it from the CMP.

Very nice

Not weird, although not a "true" 1911 to the purists, I shoot commander-length better and faster.
I tend to prefer Commanders as well, although I have a couple Governments that I enjoy, and one of those is what I frequently carry in the backcountry (10mm).

The funny thing is even what some purists may consider a "true" 1911 is quite different than a 1911 of 100+ years ago. The platform has evolved, and that's not always a bad thing. Some of those things have been big improvements. The manual of arms, ergonomics, pointability and inherent accuracy have all been retained from the original design, and that's what really matters, imo.

Am I weird…I tend to like the plain looking long slide models ??
Shane and Smithhammer mentioned already, but the Rem on the picture is not a "longslide", this is the regular 1911 size.
Long slide should be the 6" ones, Commander size should be like 4" long slide.
Someone to correct me if I'm wrong.
I too like the clean look of the regular 1911 but the M1 beavertail ( or if I can say - the missing beavertail) is killing me,
I got serious hammer bite every time I shoot such gun, mine is the same... Give me just classic serrations in the back and aftermarket beavertail and I'm happy...

Yeah like I said, I’m not as well versed with all things 1911 and I know there’s many varieties 👍🏼
