Photos Knives & Guns

Never shot IDPA but I have tons of friends (mostly in EU) that shoot IPSC and we communicate almost daily...
Les Baer's Heavy Monolith is my dream gun but most likely will never own one.
Even the purists don't consider a bull barrel 1911 to be a real 1911, I love some of the Springfield Armory lines,
exceptionally shooting guns, along with some of the 2011 models I had a chance to shoot...
Years ago was some how hard to find well made 1911 that won't give you small issues, you always have to end up with those Chip McCormick mags and the rest of
the good stuff if you want reliable gun.
This days, they are tons of companies that make very reliable 1911, 9mm models and so on, you won't go wrong IMO even with some inexpensive models of RIA...

Agree with everything.

I had a LB Monolith years ago. I remember talking to Les for hours when he was building it for me.

And I have a note from Bill Wilson congratulating me for making Master with one his pistols in IDPA back in the day.

God, I miss those days. 1911's, women, knives and fast cars. Life was good.

SA are my favorites, my Sig 226 X5 shoots essentially as 1911, same controls, came from the store with 1.2lb trigger.
Absolutely love shooting it, especially with some heavier grain like 147 or even 158.
(old picture, sorry)

My friend (and primary care doctor) bought a Cabot 1911 for $8k. Drooling, it's so out of my price range. Well, that and I could get multiple guns I want for that much.

Don't get me wrong,SA triggers are great. I just wouldn't carry one. If I wasn't looking at $1800+ in car repairs, I might be tempted to buy something soon. Like tomorrow.

However, guns are on hold, I'm going to Blade this year! In June! My mother wants to come with lol! She says she wants to buy me something there. Sweet...

Also, just finished installing on the Steyr the Glide-Rite striker spring bushing from BT guide rods. Removes the creep after take-up from the trigger. Just a short amount of take-up and a clean break, and no creep on reset either. Me likey.

I've really lost count on how many rounds I've put through it. Minimum 2500, I'm guessing closer to 3k. The factory bushing was fine. Springs were all in excellent condition and I did some cleaning and lube as needed.

Well made gun.

I too had an LB Mono. I have a great deal of regret that I sold it. Such is life. Here are a couple pic of it when I still had it.

C cutchu - What a impressive collection ! I hope you kept at least some of the knives !
I have one of the new X5s on order, but I do have a Legion SAO now.
I had a chance to shoot 226 Legion in SA, love it. I particularly liked the sights, the trigger face and the grips, all very well done.
You won't be disappointed with the 226 X-Five... Some time ago I was looking for H&K Mark 23 but it was almost impossible to find.
At that time Sig released the X-Five line and I ordered the basic X-Five Tactical TB instead looking for the Mark.
No trigger adjustment and just none adjustable tritium sights, no walnut grips... I waited four months for it to come from Germany,
and paid something like twelve hundred for it. I did check the prices last night, they are more than double nova days.
The only thing I would change would be the grips (VZ-grips). IME it works much better with heavier grain, like 147, I think due to the slightly longer barrel.
Besides the current prices, the gun IMO worth every penny. I'm shooting mostly for fun, but most of my shooting buddies are LEO and SF, some retired, some active.
They call shooting this gun "cheating"... 🤣

About 10-11 years ago a local guns store had a used HK P7 for $600. Looking at what they are worth now, I should have bought it. It was a PD trade in, so it had holster wear, etc but still. Thankfully, I did have the opportunity to shoot one shortly thereafter so at least I can say I shot one. Really cool gun. I've shot a .40 HK USP, the Sig P226, 229, and 220k. as well as a Beretta 96FS. Also numerous 1911's-Colt, Kimber, S&W, and Rock Island.

As far as the 1911, I like the Springfield Ronin Operator they had at my LGS in .45. I may have to get it. I'm holding on to my PX4 in .40, though I have someone interested in buying it, it may be a few months. To be honest, I'm afraid to list it on gunbroker because there is no paypal/venmo, etc, I'd need a money order or certified check. I feel weird about that.
Yeah Gunbroker has had some issues lately with shady sellers and possibly some actually being ATF or working with them to track or trace sales etc. Just be careful and go with your gut.
I just don’t have enough experience or time with the 1911 platform to make it my favorite…I was raised with Glock, Sig and revolvers. Just my experience…nothing wrong with 1911s at all. I wish had more time with it 👍🏼😁

Not much imported gun, I think, otherwise I find those very comfortable, low bore axis and reliable.
Internally is almost Glock. Strange iron sights maybe is another turn off but in reality, once you're used to it, they are just fine and fast as more "fast"
iron sights. I had one of those in Europe and I was very happy with it...

Will some of the forum members post a full dust cover 1911... ?
I'd love to se some Heavy Monoliths, Commanches or some of the Springfield Armory bull barrel models (I think I saw couple of those here...)
Yes I have always heard Steyr shoots well and accurate.

I never cared for 1911s for most of my life (been around guns all my life). I had fired them before but never liked the grip safety. Around 2004 / 05, a range buddy had some "nicer" 1911s. I was hooked. I overcame my dislike of grip safeties and hammer bite I felt on most other 1911s I had fired by that point in my life. Now, 1911s are the handgun "platform", that I have the most of. Now - LUV 'EM!

However, I do have to say again F*$#, I regret selling the LB Mono I used to have. Still have a fair amount of 1911s, but that Baer was just a very sweet gun. Sorry... gotta post a couple pics of it. No knife in those , but last post will have knife and gun for intent of thread.

Totally understand…I have problems with grip safety especially with Springfields for some reason…had to sell them every time I bought one…lol Still think they are cool and will eventually buy one to keep for the heck of it 😁
