Knives in self defense???

Yeah, but it also depends a lot on you.

It's almost impossible to give blanket advice on the topic of self defense. Every case is different. Generally, it depends on so many things. I, for example, have been let off a few times just because police have seen I look like a pretty "Stand up guy".

This has been a very good read for the most part. I live in New Zealand, here it is illegal to carry ANYTHING that can be used to hurt someone. Even pepper spray is not legal to for someone to carry. What stinks is that the people who make the law do so from the safety of their big offices and secure homes, they simply don't grasp the dangers that an average person goes through.

I carry a knife with me at all times. I am not a criminal or a violent thug. I am simply a citizen who has seen firsthand the need to be able to defend oneself against people that are out to hurt you. I also carry a 120 lumen flashlight as a non contact/lethal option.

I agree with the sentiment that I would really rather face a court of law than make a mistake which puts me six feet under. Especially if I am out with my girlfriend or one of my family members, I will do what I can to protect them from a thug looking to harm. If a group of people approach me and my girlfriend with the intent to hurt me or do things to her, then I'll introduce them to my friend, Mr. Emerson Karambit.

I would add that it is a good idea to keep your legal expense fund funded regardless of when you decide that it is in good prudence to defend yourself.
