Knives in your vehicle??

I have a Boker Trance (with serrations) lashed to my sunvisor on the drivers side with red 550 Paracord. This is in case in an accident I cannot reach the knife in my pocket or the passenger cannot reach a knife in the glove box so there is always one lashed to the sunvisor. If pulled over I wouldn't even worry about it because it's for an emergency not to use on cops.

I also carry flares, a couple flannel shirts (quilted), and jumper cables that I made from welding wire. I bought end clamps from a welding shop along with the wire (I think it's 6 gauge but I'm not sure. It is stranded copper and I then soldiered it to the ends and made my own set. The cables never get stiff and have never failed me. They are good to like -50 degrees F, or 200 degrees F. I could never find a good set of jumpers that I liked so I made my own.

I also carry some screwdrivers, a pair of channel locking pliers, pens, a few liters of water, a sharpening stone, extra towels, a boyscout handbook, 2 flashlights (one large Mag and one Surefire 6P, lock de-icer, 2 Sharpie markers, about 50 feet of 550 Paracord, 3 Bic lighters in a ziplock bag, and a "Light my Fire" fire starter sparker thingy. I think I should be ok should something happen.

Lastly I have a good old CB Radio in my trunk with a 10 foot magnetic antenna should all other ways of communication cease to exist. ;)

I have a bit of OCD. :)

I habitually carry an excessive amount of survival-related gear in my truck; my cutlery inside is relatively limited to a yellow-handled Spyderco Pacific Salt and a Leatherman Charge TTi. I usually package one fixed knife as well, but recently took it out for personal use. It will be replaced shortly.

I also have a Buck Hartsook with a reprofiled and flattened grind and a Leatherman Micra on my keychain. :D

i got a tire iron and a lead pipe

Have you actually seen a lead pipe? I have worked on lead pipes in the plumbing field and it's not like they are great for SD. In fact you can bend lead pipes with your hands. It's very mailable.

Shall we assume you are just joking or what? How about actually answering if you have knives and/or multitools in your vehicle?

I believe he was kidding, but as the son of a plumber, I can assure you, a lead pipe is a formidable weapon and being hit with one would do much more damage to your cranium than it would the "malleable" pipe.

An axe in the trunk witha small knife there, too.

A Leatherman Wave in a ditty bag along with a Gerber Magnum LST, and a Vic Timekeeper

Currently deciding on a decent fixed blade for car carry.

All of this doesn't include the blades on me when I get into the car.

Constanty in the car:
- 18" khukri below driver seat
- Victorinox Rucksack in glovebox
- Buck Hartsook in vehicle survival gear box

On my person:
- main EDC knife (varies daily, today its a Caly3)
- secondary EDC knife: small Case whittler
- Boker Wharcom in personal survival box
- Leatherman Squirt P4 on keychain

Hmm, it does look a bit sick now that they are all listed... :)
Bests,
Akos

In my Wifes Car - '08 Chevy Equinox Sport

Generic EMT shears and short (about 8 inches long) generic pry bar, both in glove box. A poor man's accident egress kit, with the pry-bar possibly doing double duty in a defensive situation. I wouldn't be too upset if my car is broken into and they get stolen--I live in an urban area, so it's a relatively high possibility the car'll get broken in to or stolen (although it hasn't yet eer happened to me, knock wood).

PS: And a mountaineer's snow shovel (very compact and light). Not really an emergency item but an every-day item for use from November to April where I live.

So, are there any LEOs out there who could give the scoop on the legality of having a knife in the car (glovebox, in a backpack, behind a seat)? I'd bet that the laws are vague enough that it would give a police officer some leeway given the circumstances of why you got pulled over in the first place.

For the record, I keep a cheapo Buck folder with a bottle/can opener and screwdriver on it that I got as a present in my glovebox and a Leatherman in there as well. I also found my Mora 2000 under the seat a short while back. It must've fallen out of my pack after a hike.

Second one from the bottom, it's like the Tinker but with out a philips head SD.

folding utility knife, Leatherman Wave, Vic Farmer, Martindale Golok, folding saw, Gerber/Fiskars camp axe, Corona machete, Hultafors GK

in the truck inside my emergency bag and bed mounted toolbox, naturally with lots of other crap.

Not much in my car but I do have a hatchet, flares in the trunk and spyderco rescue in the glovebox and a spyderco jester hanging from my rearview mirror.

First I thought the jester would attract negative attention from people but nobody notcies/minds the knife.

Also its nice to look at the knife while driving. (I mean occasionally glance at it)

Aside from a BOB that travels along on the rear floorboard of the truck, I carry a Mora 510 and a Buck folding dual blade (knife/seatbelt cutter). They ride in the driver's-side door "pocket".

Gerber Multi tool, Jumper cables, mini mag flashlight, in both vehicles. Ratchet tie downs in mine plus sleeping bag, handsaw, and shovel.
After reading this thread I know I need to add a couple of things to both vehicles.
Thank you for the suggestions
