Knives & Watches

I wear a green-faced Omega Speedmaster Automatic which I bought about six years ago. The only times I don't wear it is when I am going somewhere I am not too sure about, when I swap it for a £50 Swatch automatic.

The neat thing about the Swatch is the clear acrylic case so you can see the movement working. There's just something about miniature machines which I find fascinating.

My current object of desire is a Jaeger Le Coulture Memovox which I have seen in a local jewellers. It will be mine - oh yes.

Vote Omega Seamaster. I like it because it is STRONG. I broke ever other watch I ever tried to wear. I never take the omega off - it's a dive watch so it's completely waterproof and has taken a beating without getting a scratch on the face at all. A watch isn't just jewelry - it's a neccessary tool in my life. You only wear one so why have a crap one ?
Very similar to having a good knife I think.

ps someone mentioned binoculars. I don't know much about them - where is a good place to look ?

for myself, watches do go with knives. Of course watches are usually
more expensive. I have a Brietling Antares GMT and a
Rolex Airking both of which have been accurized. That\
costs $300 each to do. I had a Rolex Submariner, but it
it was stolen a few years ago in a burglary. About a
year ago I picked up a Seiko Kinetic that I love. My
eye site is not was it was, so I must have reading
glasses on to see the small dials on most watches. I
also have my fathers Elgin pocket watch he purchased
when I was born, but I usually don't wear even though
it keeps perfect time.
Remember, You can not have too many knives or watches.

Fun thread.., thanks for the pictures and commentary guys :)..

Beautiful knife. ElishewitZ knives are among my favorite. He had this nice Persian with pearl handles before but I couldn't swing the $600.00.

About those Russian Watches- I bought a Poljot Aviator about a year ago, it hasn't missed a beat yet. It's made in Moscow, and the mechanical movement is, as I understand it, a copy of the Swiss Omega, licensed to the Soviets after the war during the reconstruction. Ruggedly built with a nice heavy stainless case and luminous hands and numbers. Seems like a quality watch, but is shipped with a cheap leather band, an add on by the importer I'm pretty sure.

Oh, by the way, in case you are wondering, the top one is a JYCowlishaw sterling fruit knife, made in Sheffield, England, dated 1865, the other is a 2-blade Howard brand, ca.1895, made for the C.B. Barker Co. by Canastota in NY.

This is a great thread.

I'm also very particular about watches, (as I am with knives)

I really only like military/aviation style watches at the moment. And automatic movements. With large faces. minimum 43mm

I think my next purchase will be a Hamilton watch. A Khaki Officer Auto or a 46mm Pilots watch

I like both knives and watches, mostly wear Casio's or Seiko's. I have a few nice Swiss watches for special occasions. I don't have high end knives though, maybe should add one to the collection.

Despite popular belief, most rolexes are durable sports watches absent of any bling whatsoever. In fact by modern standards most rolexes are visually mundane.

My only expensive watch is an omega speedmaster. I think it complements a sebenza very well

You watch guys just can't help yourselves can you? Plz do me a favor and move this over to TimeZone before the hairy wrist shots come up. This a KNIFE forum! :grumpy:

Not a problem, I post KNIFE photos on the WATCH forums. :)

And who on this forum that is able to properly sharpen a knife still has any hair on their arms anyway?

Here is one that I used to own, including knife content.

There is a hint of a knife in this photo- a big TOPS.

When I just started posting on Watchuseek.com, I once posted a picture of a watch in a "what are you wearing"-thread and on the picture was a SAK visible.... bad, bad me. But probably some watch forums are more tolerant. :-)

BTW, in the Gadgets&Gear forum there's a thread on watches.

That's a nice one. Do you know which model it is?

Again, those rolexes are an exception to the norm. Most rolexes are plain. People who aren't watch enthusiasts don't recognize them because they have a reputation for being flashy. They also believe rolex represents the high end market. The average fossil is much more gaudy and flashy than the average rolex

I am a watch enthusiast, as well. In fact, I find a complicated timepiece to be the the pinnacle of fine craftmanship. There is no other field where so many features can be crammed into such a small space and not be driven by electronics. Watchmaking truly melds art and science.
