knives with hardcore framelocks?

You should take framelock lock-bar cutouts into consideration--often times they are cut as thin or thinner than a liner lock, and are made of titanium (which has a lower strength/volume ratio than steel).

I'd suggest a Sebenza, though I'm not too sure that it fits in too well with the whole Madball/Agnostic Front scene...

I agree, maybe an Umnumzaan; but I'd imagine Roger Miret to be more of a Buck 110 kind of guy...

Yeah, the 110 would definitely fit the image better. So I guess the lock back is more hardcore than the frame lock?

Actually Brother Roger is more of a Pitbull and baseball bat sort of guy :)

There are a ton of great framelocks , some of them heavier-duty than others. Benchmade 760 , Kershaw JYD ( and other Kershaw's ) , CRKT S-2's , those are the ones I have off the top of my head.

Yes, really!
Not all come with those issues!!

I'm aware that not all come with this issue, but based on people's posting on bladeforums, it's atleast 2% of the first runs failed. That's not even including non-bladeforums members who bought one and people who bought them as safe queens and have opened and closed them a few times. Plus you said:

you cant go wrong with the Hest.

When clearly, you can.

I wish it wasn't like that, because I really wanted one for a while.

Me too. To DPX's credit, I did eventually get a refund. But between return shipping and the change in exchange rate, I ended up losing well over $50 getting my refund. .

I own a lot of different brands including Strider's, ZT's, CRK's and Hinderer's. I came into them with no pre-conceived biases. Now, if my life depended on it, I would take the Hinderer over anything else every time. It's the knife I carry on duty every day. IMHO they live up to the hype. Some others brands I've tried haven't.

you make it sound like a feature :D
really, though, if you want good framelocks, check out ZT, lionsteel, CRK, and customs. those will all do you proud.

lionsteel made the hest folders.

and the lock on the lionsteel sr1 i have slips with a light tap to the spine.

You cant go wrong by going with the one that pretty much started it all and quickly became the benchmark for all other framelocks. . . CRK SEBENZA.
But using words like "hardcore" only means you've bought into marketing ploys. If you mean you just want something cool with more "bragging rights" a nice rare option would be the Cutters Knife and Tool / BREND #2 folder (in double action of course). When it first came out, it was called the the D/A sebenza.
I have both, and the Cutters/Brend's titanium framelock is amazing. tighter lockup than my sebie but the blade swings out WAY smoother, its pretty much a triple action, you can flick it out with just your wrist momentum. It's way more "hardcore" looking, and also in function: its blade seems to scream " I want to be a fighting knife", where as the plain utility blade Sebie is content to just be about the best real use "work" knife you can get.

PS.
I recently snagged this custom titanium framelock monster, read the specs.

I got a ZT 0551 yesterday and it is one beefy knife! The titanium lock bar is crazy thick. I pobably won't ever put this knife or any other through enough stress to defeat the lock but the thick lock bar sure does inspire confidence. The 0551 just feels like it was made to be abused.

Hi sogflash -

I have a DPX HEST F - mine is one of the first, and has all of the deleterious flaws that make the knives useless.

My example, however, is a fine knife, and with the rotobloc locking mechanism, it becomes the most confidence-inspiring folding knife I own.

I love the D2 steel, and the blade is thick and the frame is sturdy. I regularly carry my flawed knife and love it.

Nostimos! Great knife there in the Brend - I love my example, and talk about a smoothly operating folder, with rock solid lockup - that is a great knife - I am surprised there is not more interest in those.

I really like the Flaherty - I will be interested to see your report on your impression of that knife after you have used it for a bit.

best regards-

should have chosen my words better.

maybe I should get a pry bar to carry with me instead

it would be cheaper, and I wouldn't start crying if it got scratched.

Hey sogflash, check out what Ernie Emerson has to say about liners. its a good starting point. Plus, the guy is an aerospace engineer. http://www.emersonknives.com/ekKnifeAnatomy.php

Maybe you can define "hardcore" for us. Is that like more than "extreme" but less than "radical"?

Didn't your mother ever teach you to keep your mouth shut if you're not going to say something nice?

Tell us Buffy, what is "like more than "extreme" but less than "radical"?" Also, who are you quoting? I didn't see anyone say extreme or radical before you.

You don't need to litter up threads here with your passive aggressive b/s, we all know you do plenty of that elsewhere...

If you really want something hardcore, then get yourself something with a compression lock.

I seriously think a fixed blade would be a lot better for "hardcore" use. Locks all fail. Just at different times. With a folder, you're essentially breaking a fixed blade in two, and putting it back together.

The mostest, bestest hardcorest badass framelock folder there is... is a USMC Ka-Bar. [sic]

Proven history of reliability, sturdy, and excellent value for what you pay. Also, it costs a lot less than a Strider SNG or a Hinderer XM-18 AND it will hold an edge longer, too.

Trust me, you can probably pry a lot better with it than any of the framelocks mentioned.

And how is that a framelock?

I prefer my Strider WP-C fixed blade. 1/4" thick blade of S30V makes it a perfect sharpened prybar, yet it's small enough to carry concealed if your state frowns upon carrying a giant Rambo knife on your belt. I also doubt 1095CV at Rc 57 or less would hold an edge longer than Bos heat treated S30V or CTS-XHP, but that's just me and the laws of physics;).
