knives with hardcore framelocks?

Noctis, I believe you are correct on that. A stainless steel does indeed hold an edge much, much longer than a carbon steel at HRC 57-58.

Also, due to the "laws of physics", it is much, much easier to pry with a knife that is 7-3/4" overall length than a knife that is 11-7/8" overall length, with only 0.085 of a difference in black thickness.

Thank you for the enlightenment.

That's the first HEST Folder, the locking issues and a few others were addressed and re-released as the HEST/f 2.0. I have 1 and have had no problems, it's hardcore lol.

Yours might be fine, but there are plenty of threads on here started by owners with problems with their 2.0, so they were not fully addressed.

I didn't know you'd focus that much on the word "hardcore". I don't have an exact definition for a hardcore framlock. maybe a thick one? some linerlocks are so thin that I'm afraid it may slide op between the knife and the other liners.

I haven't got any specific uses for the knife.

It's a little ribbing at your expense I think. Don't take it personally. There's thread after thread of "what is the best hardcore..." and people differ on what that means. To the point, I have never had a single issue with my spyderco military but I use it for mundane tasks like cutting cardboard or prepping dinner. Nothing "hardcore" by anyones definition :D but I trust the knife fully to not close on my fingers.

Personally, I wouldn't trust any framelock lock bar that was less than .25" thick.

Seriously, I've done things (prying) with my M1, and now my Razel that everybody here "knows" are knife abuse. I've also used my mini-grip as a screwdriver, and there have been a few "light chopping" escapades with one folder or another.

I've never gotten a lock to fail, and the only time one was in danger of folding up on me was a Crow I was using to cut plastic fiber sacks. I blame that on poor edge maintenance, not a weak lock.

I like having the confidence that my folders will take more "abuse" than I can give them, but if I think I might break my knife, I stop and get a better-suited tool. Like my Sawzall...

Around the home and camp yes, but again, I can't see anyone walking around with a Ka-Bar over here. Although I wonder if there are any quality folding prybars available that would be better suited for such use. If the intention is to pry without cutting open whatever is in the crate, something blunt would appeal to me more, especially if I have reason to believe my knife might slip and cut me.

I don't post much. A thick lock bar is good in that the contact
area the blade is more. But what about the cut out on the bar?
I know it has to be there so it will flex. To unlock. But on some
Knives there is a lot of meteral removed and very thin. The Striders
and ZT for exampal. What are your thoughts.
