Knives with Pocket Clips always getting lost

in my case I tend to literally cut corners, I don't always go all the way around a work bench or countertop. I work in a lot of kitchens and my pockets are roughly the same height as most countertops. I will "bounce" off a counter and bend the clip then lose it later when it slips out.

Okay, that makes sense too.
If the clip gets bent, it won't be very "clippy" afterwards.

I was up in a tree once trying to trim some dead and broken branches from a storm. When I was climbing down, it was thru the branches and somehow I snagged the pocket clip and it bent out pretty well. I said a bad word or two. I knew I shoulda made my wife climb the tree. Lol.

I don't even recall which knife it was now as this was several years ago. I have a stash of spare pocket clips of various styles and sizes so I just replaced it. About the only time I can rememberl that happening. And now days I've pretty much gone back to traditional models and SAK's.

I use a push pin safety safety lanyard attached to my belt. The push pin can be inserted in the lanyard hole from either side. A push of the plunger lets you pull the pin out.View attachment 454255

Simple..
Walk though this.

How do people "brush into" things in such a way that their knife gets lost?
Do they regularly bump into walls, shrubs, boxes and everything else?
I just don't understand how it happens.

Well, clip knives don't work for everyone. Maybe just take the clip off and carry the whole knife down in your pocket? Clips work for me, but I have sprung a clip a time or 2... Mainly on my Sere 2K. It's a very long oddly shaped deep carry clip. I have had to take it off several times, rebend it, and put it back on.

I had my Griptillian get snagged by the outside pocket of a duffel bag full of tools in the back of the work truck one time, but noticed it was gone pretty quickly and I was carrying it in a lower pocket almost adjacent to my knee. In my front right pocket my biggest issue is the traditional, especially since I carry them in more comfortable shorts they tend to slide right out vs a clipped knife staying put.

You can buy pants or shorts with a piece of leather stitched on the front right pocket and it will hold that knife real tight on there.

I haven't lost a clipped knife yet (only an unclipped one), but I have bent a spyderco wire clip when sitting down in a lawn chair once and I scratched a doorpost with the clip on a microtech utx. Nowadays I carry my keys (and some knives) with a suspension clip in my pocket. When wearing a jacket that goes a bit below my waist, I've had the clip snag slightly on the bottom of the jacket when the jacket is lifted up when I reach into my pocket for something.

There is an easy fix for losing a knife because of a poor clip.... get a Cold Steel, any Cold Steel with a clip. If you own one you know what I mean (super stiff clips)

I was pulling a heavy steel cart onto an elevator when the edge of the cart caught the old plastic Delica clip. It pulled it out I my pocket and before I could react, the knife hit the floor, bounced once and straight through the crack and into the shaft. Gone forever.

The possibilities are only limited by your imagination. I keep the para short so that a folder hangs in pocket but not to the bottom with all the lint and crud. Just slide the para under your belt, make a loop, and drop it all through that loop.

This is a good topic for me ro read because I just lost my coveted BM 930 that was clipped in my pocket. I've lost a Delica 4 and a couple of Kershaws and now I'm considering going with a cheeper blade because I keep loosing them. I like the idiea tiguy7 had.

I will not carry a knife using a pocket clip

I am very active and I loose them

I carry all folders in a horizontal carry pouch on my weak side

I have never lost a knife this way and they do not stand out like a clip showing on a pocket

I hate pocket carry

I carry at least one knife on me every single day, and have only lost one knife and that was in 1999. I am still mad about it.

For smaller folders and especially ones with nice cosmetic finishes, I use a clip-case that goes inside the pocket like the cases made by William Henry. I find it protects the knife and stops it from getting brushed out. I also like lanyards for their functional usage. However, if you are constantly losing knives that are clipped, I think a belt sheath is probably what you will want for nicer knives. A lot of makers produce really nice ones, sometimes out of exotic materials like ostrich, snake, crocodile, and shark.

I have a few pocket-clip folders, but mostly I carry my folders in a belt pouch.
It's more secure, I don't scratch furniture or fabric, and it frees up my pockets to carry other things.

Plus your pockets are free to carry other things. Nice knife, what make?

You trying to jinx me? This happened a couple days ago.

Luckily I could feel that the clip grabbed something. I did get a cool new black clip out of it though.

I think the only clipped knives I've lost have been Leeks. Two of them. I have worked in many jobs where I've had to wriggle into position or get into a tight space, so something in my pocket would easily fall out. I specifically remember crawling under a steam pipe with just enough clearance for me to lie flat, and having just about everything in my pockets fall onto the walkway.

Everything but my PM2, clipped to my pocket. ;)

I (almost) lost a mini grip walking home from a store when the pocket clip snaged on the bag and bent the clip....
