Knives You Hate!!

Spyderco is my my favorite knife maker but the Southard gets a big :thumbdn: . I just don't like the ergos the blade shape the handle flips ok just never liked the design .

SOG and quite a few others reminds me of those grossly overpriced patch cords you buy at Best Buy for your TV and stereo. Someone is making a killing and it ain't you!

I've disliked every blade with a tanto point.

Ditto!!! I can't stand the "modern," "American," or "re-enforced" tanto point (the latter as CS calls it). I once had a large CS tanto point Voyager and regretted not getting the clip point the moment I started to use it. I have a Dawson that came with one and I've reground it to resemble something like a proper kaiken blade. Just say NO to the tanto!

With the knives I own there is one I particularly dislike.... "SOG Fielder G-10" It's an inexpensive knife with some nice features that I like, but it keeps completely falling apart on me.
What makes it worse is all the screws are cheap, and strip easy when you try to tighten all back up. It's so bad that I don't feel like I can trust this knife to take it anywhere or any heavy usage.

I also feel like the liner lock is a little too thin.

But maybe I simply bought a lemon? I've read other peoples reviews who love them.

The thing that really gets me, is my GF gave me a cheap $10 Maxam knife http://www.mitechtrading.com/maxam-liner-lock-knife-with-thumbstud-exotic-wood-scales-p-518.html (Shhh, she doesn't know that I know lol) It's the only other inexpensive knife I own and yet it runs rings around the SOG in every category!
1) It opens much smoother and faster then the SOG.
2) The blade pivot bolt doesn't have a nasty habit of backing out. And isn't as cheap looking as the SOG.
3) Not as much blade to body wiggle
4) Large thumb studs on on both sides of the blade, and it doesn't look like it was cheaply riveted on like the SOG.
5) Nice thick liner lock. (But maybe cheaper metal?)
6) The blade might be 420, but it seems to retain it's edge longer.
7) The powder coating is decent, It's my "this job might ruin my good knife" goto. Where as the SOG might have G-10 handle bits, the rest of the handle I suspect is chromed pot metal, and I'm expecting it to flake off someday. It also feels kinda "Cheap"

In conclusion, my $10 no name knife feels and performs much more like a expensive brand name knife. Yet my brand name $30 knife feels and performs like a $5 dollar knife.

I hate discontinued knives. You know ones You've had in the past and would love to have another but uh oh. Discontinued. I'm looking at you crkt lightfoot M-1.

I don't know if I hate any particular knife, but I do hate the fact that every time I discover a cool Spyderco it's been discontinued.:grumpy: What is it with those people and discontinuation? :D

The bottom-of-the-barrel worst for to my mind are the wood-handled swiss army knife souvenir clones. They often aren't meaningfully cheaper than actual swiss army knives, but boy, is there a difference. Bad materials, bad fit, bad finishing. What makes this really sad is that people buy them with good intentions - my sister-in-law got one for my father-in-law for father's day. For the same or similar money, you could what I see as a true triumph of engineering and manufacturing - a Victorinox (or formerly, a Wenger), which is the most iconic, knife-as-tool, versatile, quality, bang-for-your-buck purchases you can get. The vast gulf in quality, combined in the nearly meaningless difference in price makes me despise these knives more than any other.
