Knives You Hate!!

I hate knives that do not have flames, a dangerous insect/animal on the handle, the word "Xtreme" somewhere on the blade and knives that fail to resemble a shark or dragon in some fashion. I mean, if you're proud of the knives you make, you'll invest the time and effort to make them look good! A wizard, a skull, or a wizard skull can really class up a blade and show your enemies that you mean business.

;)

I don't like pocket clips. So I dislike folders with non-removable clips or clips which, if removed, compromise the locking mechanism or the structural integrity of the handle.

I don't "hate" knives, but I do avoid every knife of foreign manufacture with a sketchy history...this would include all mainland Chinese knives, Pakistani knives, and those of the former Soviet Union.

From my stand point it's any knife thats claimed to be forged (thats how I learned)and is visibly not ...just say what it is and thats fine by me. I guess it boils down to integrity some have it some don't.

Soooo,,,, you're telling me there are folks in this world that dislike Spyderco, knives with clips, CRK, and,,,, well it just goes on and on. Whatever, weirdos :D

I only hate that I keep clicking on this thread :)

Maybe a thread title geared towards discussion rather than just smack talk would have been better... :)

On topic, I'm not especially a fan of knives with weak hardware.

What specifically comes to mind is my Kershaw Blur, whose screws cannot be removed from the handle scales so I can replace the worn out torsion bar. This is due to the screws being too soft... they easily stripped out when trying to remove them. Normally this isn't a problem with any of my Kershaw knives, so it's probably just a lemon. Still loving the design overall.

But on the other hand, my Spyderco and Benchmade hardware all seem to have been tempered, or hardened in some way, as I've yet to damage them with any amount of torque.

Edit; forgot to mention weak detent. Too weak, and it can ruin any otherwise amazing folder for me. Plus there is the added annoyance that gravity knives are illegal in Canada...

They're fine, so long as you can't see them, or feel them.
How do you not feel thumbstuds? Do you mean while cutting material?

What's weird about that is you can easily forge a blade from bar stock, then sand and grind away any evidence of having done so, to the point that it appears to have been made from grinding flat bar-stock.

If you're referring to me re: disliking knives with clips, your dead wrong. Most of the folders in my collection came with clips. They just don't have clips on them anymore. ;)

I hate:

1. Knives that are deceptive. These are either (a) fakes (b) celebrity-endorsed junk (c) knives that don't specify steel or country of origin.
2. Knives that have fixed position, tip down pocket clips.
3. Combo-edge blades. Why does half of the blade have to be serrated? Why not a forth, so you at least have a useable edge?

I hate scandi grinds, I really really hate them. I don't know if that's ironic since i'm Scandinavian? Here's one I own:

In Norway they only sold different variation of scandis, that's all they had in the sport and outdoor shops, at least until the last few years. I was trapped in a scandi-grind-hell until I discovered the world of cutlery outside my frozen homeland.

So what is to hate about such a common and appriciated blade grind? Well, they cant slice, they're useless for food prep, they don't look good, the ones they sell in my neck of the woods (Helle and Brusletto mostly) have different kind of mystery steels or 440c.

Yes, but just because these two knives are not up to your standards of performance, you hate the whole company?

Anyway I'm out of these thread. Too much darn hate in here. Enjoy your prejudices. ;)

I "hate" holes on blades, so never liked spyderco's

UH-OH! Now you went and did it.:D

This thread is impossible to stay away from, like a multivehicle accident unfolding in slow motion!

LOL agreed! You don't see enough wizard skulls on knives these days. I see plenty of skulls, but how do I know they're actual wizard skulls? I mean, wizards look like everyone else.
