Knives you have given away

There is a difference to me between knives I have bought as gifts and knives that I give away, either spontaneously or after some consideration, out of my own accumulation. I have bought dozens of knives to be given a Christmas gifts, sometimes by the box or by the dozen: Opinels, Moras, Micras, CS Kudus, SAKs, for kids, in-laws and other relatives as well as friends.

Many more as individual gifts: Benchmade, Spyderco, Buck, Kershaw. I gave my 3-speed guru a Case peanut after converted my 4-speed Dynahub to five speeds.

I gave a Sog Flash Ii, a knife I hated, to a guy on the Smith and Wesson forum who loved them. I have given a few Rough Riders on the spur of the moment, mostly to people who have admired a pocket knife. I have given my son and grandson a lot of knives. The grandson favors the Marttiini. My boy put the Bugout at the top of his rotation, just ahead of the Mini Grip.

I’m going to go ahead and break the rules in this thread, sorry OP. This was given to me by my father, purchased in 1964 by him. I believe Rudy H Ruana himself ground this knife, but I could be incorrect. Has anyone else been gifted a nice knife?C9935C9F-96B9-4BA3-A22D-96B5EE176C6A.jpegBF70226E-F0FC-4787-8230-07A969E7F1F5.jpeg7DAFB568-2BF1-4BD1-8644-43F423EF7BB9.jpeg

I gave away my CRKT K.I.S.S to a Slovak friend of mine. I hope he will forgive me

Also, I gave away a Kizlyar Filin to a Polish friend, we both nurtured a romantic attachment to Russia, which has now been put on ice, to say the least.

And I have given my dear son a “My first Victorinox” and a Morakniv Scout’s Knife ❤️

I've given away a Becker bk9 , just never resonated with me point to rounded for me to be a Bowie heavy for a fighter and as a chopper ok but liked my junglas or goloks better . A boker m3 trench knife don't even remember the models but two Gerber's and a kukri house BAS the handle was to small for my hands. Given cold steel kudu lites away as gifts.

I've given away dozens of Buck folders to co-workers over the years......

no special stories just seen too many keys used and old kitchen knives to open boxes and cut things in the shop warehouses when they lose their box cutters......over the years....so I keep some slim selects and various budget Buck folders to hand out....
One of my favorites I keep a 112 slim in my pocket at work as well.

I tend to give away a fair number of knives. Mostly SAKs and Small Buck 303s. I always have 2 of each in my truck armrest storage area. I tend to find people who are borrowing other peoples knives, using a cheap dull knife and replace it. We go camping a lot and as we walk around there are kids using cheap knives that won't cut or are broken and I will ask the parents if I can upgrade them with whatever is in my pocket (intentionally carry a spare). I gave away a Sebenza and a couple of others on this forum a few years ago when moral was low.

My niece's son made Eagle Scout a couple years ago.
I made him this box and filled it with special knives.
Star of the show is my Dad's SAK that I bought him in the early 80's.
My Dad is Willie the Eagle Scout's Great Grandfather, named after him too.
Pop carried that SAK every day and fixed an amazing amount of things with it. Being a German trained woodworker probably had a bunch to do with it....
Top of the box has Willie's full name above the Boy Scout logo and Eagle Scout below it.
A fun project for a wonderful nephew.

Wednesday was my birthday, and I spent Wed-Mon in Dallas with family, including my half sister who I met for the first time. I found out she likes knives, and carries two in her purse. I had a few I'd been wanting to sell and/or that I just didn't carry much, and had not been getting any hits on the exchange, I gifted some pretty cool to knives. I gave her a lightly used with box Viper Novis with ziricote wood handles, her husband a Spyderco Para 3 LW Spy27, my 13 year old nephew a Civivi Riffle Damascus and my 15 year old niece a purple WE Deacon. They all went nuts. It was really cool.

A generous forum member gave me some knives recently. He said that I could do what I wanted with them, including selling them, if I needed to. I didn't want to, but life has backed me in a corner. In order to further the spirit of his generosity, I just gave a stockman that he gifted me to a fellow who I thought needed a good knife.

I have no idea how many knives I've given away over the years. Hundreds for sure...

Greatest reaction was my Buddy's kid who has a Balisong collection. Tried and tried to find a BM 42 and couldn't. Next visit I gave him mine. Blew him away.

I buy those little 50 cent Jarbenzas at the local hardware store sometimes. I give them to people I don't like.

They think I'm awesome for giving them a "knife" and I feel good about them feeling good about my insult. 😁

I've given away lots of knives over the years. Most of them have been Kershaws and some Bucks and Spyderco's, Zero Tolerance and a few others. The most expensive one has been a Spartan Harsey Plague Dr to my soon to be son in law. It was his college graduation present as he studied pathology so he really liked that knife when I showed it to him after purchasing it. In the almost year I've given it to him I only seen him carry it one time at Christmas last year. And then he had it in a case in his pocket lol. He's afraid of scratching it up. I told him to carry it but it's usually the Kershaws I've given him. I enjoy seeing others happy.

I have.

Also to the fact I’ll give knifes to friends sometimes as it’s easier for me to gift them off than to list, sell and deal with dickhead buyers and low ballers… my times worth more to me than the majority of the knives I gift.

When I first became a member here it was right before Christmas. Literally the first two knives I purchased off of the forum I got scammed. One was a Microtech otf for my son for Xmas. One of the forum members read my story in the good and bad forum and sent me a like new Axial otf. That really renewed my faith in people after getting taken for over $600 bucks. I tried to send him a thank you card with a Cracker Barrel gift card to the return address but it got sent back to me. So if you're reading this, I appreciated it and tried to thank you it, but it didn't work out lol.
