knives you keep coming back to?

I hear ya Shootist. Like you I have many knives in my collection but always seem to favor a few for actual use/carry.

What's weird is that the "expensive" knives are usually not the ones that are in my favor for daily carry. I have a few customs, the usual factories: MTs, CRKs, Emersons, CS, Rekat, Benchmade, etc. but the brand that I favor day-in-and-day-out is Spyderco.

I choose my carry knife of the day from among a number of Spyderco models depending on alot of frivolous reasons; however, my usual favorite carry is the J.D. Smith collaboration.

You picked a good topic--I look forward to reading posts by other enthusiasts.

WOW......... Lots of Spyderco folks!

And I must agree to a point.... Recently purchased a Spyderco Viele. Awesome ! ! !

But........must also include the Microtech DA LCC. And a large plain CRK Sebenza. And a Microtech SOCOM DA. And a Microtech SOCOM MA. And a Microtech Combat Talon II. Of course, there's the Kershaw Random Task.

Oh......can't forget my Darrel Ralph CF EDC !

I bought a Spyderco Walker lt/wt at the first knife show I went to in '98, it was my EDC until this year when I felt the need for a change so I bought a CRKT/KFF. I like the KFF a lot, but that Spydie keeps finding it's way back into my right pocket. I have a custom Washburn folder in a G2 sheath on my belt, but when I needed to sharpen a pencil today at work I reached for my knife in my right pocket and I smiled when I pulled out my Spydie because I don't remember even picking it up this morning.

No matter how much I like my other knives, I always come back to my Victorinox SAKs. When I carry my single-blade folders I always seem to need a screwdriver or other tool.

I always come back to my Spyderco Gin-1 Native. I'm looking forward to getting a new one in 440V.

Oddly enough the knife I carry most often is a simple old carbon steel stockman. Its a cheap production knife that I have had for 10 years and it been just about everywhere that I have been. The blades are worn and spotted, and the backspring has blued naturally, but its a sharp knife and it rides very comforbly in my pocket.

I keep telling myself that I'll replace it with one of my nice folders when it breaks. But the knife never seems to give up and I never seem to get around to replacing it. Its hard to retire an old friend.

I still have a weak spot for the BM AFCK, but have upgraded to the M2 version.

Keep going back to my Mini-AFCK and Micarta Calypso Jr. Both have the hole and do the stuff I need to do. I also carry my Crawford Point Guard on the belt just about always...Ed.

I have a few that I come back to time and again...

- Benchmade Mini-AFCK in M2 HSS
- CRK Umfaan as my daily carry
- Victorinox SAK Classic as my other daily carry
- Bob Dozier Yukon Pro Skinner as my hunting & hiking companion

These knives have NEVER let me down. They always perform above & beyond my expectations. Higher praise I cannot give a knife.

I keep going back to my 710 axis.Yeah I had to fix the crappy factory edge.Yeah it is pretty heavy. But it has such great opening and nice lines.I quit carrying it for awhile but it just keeps coming back. Also a Livesy NRGS neck piece that is a super cutter.I keep going back to that one too.

No matter what I purchase, and it's always the latest and greatest, sooner or later it ends up locked in the pistol safe. Back out of the safe comes a mid sized Spyderco folder (Delica, Calypso, or Standard), which quickly gets inspected and clipped inside my pocket for daily carry.

Once hunting season rolls around, no matter what fixed blades I have on hand, it's always that age old Buck Woodsman that gets strapped on my belt for dressing chores.

Those knives just "fit me" and I can't bear to be without them too long.

Case stockman or peanut.Never leave home without it.

For me it is my REKAT Carnivore. I'm not sure why, I think it is because of the handle. It just feels so right in my hand compared to everything else.
