Knives you'll keep forever...

I only have two knives that I will never get rid of, regardless of the circumstances: one is a Franklin Mint 'Dracula' knife that my son bought me when I first got into collecting knives and the other one is a prototype slipjoint that was given to me as a very special gift by my friend Bob Terzuola.

The rest are just knives.

The only "forever" keeper is my Dad's Henckels pocketknife that he carried for over 50 years. He bought it shortly after immigrating to the U.S., and carried it up to 2000 when I gave him a new monogrammed gents knife to replace it (I really wanted the old one for my son ;) ). It looks like it's been to Hell and back, blades are all worn down, etc., but I wouldn't trade it for all my other knives.

I don't have all that many knives but am patiently trying to accumulate. So far the ones I feel like I will be holding onto, come hell or highwater, are;

-Benchmade 610 Rukus with the ivory micarta grips that I've "worked on" a bit
-Strider AR that I've "worked on" a bit
-Ontario Hossom Retribution I that I've "worked on" a bit
-RJ Martin Devastator that RJ "worked on" a bit!

These are 4 so far that I plan on keeping. The others I have are subject to trades/sales at any time.

My Jerry Fisk 7" South West Bowie forged from 5160 round bar with pre-Cival War wrought iron fittings( forged from a wagon wheel) The knife has a beautiful one piece stag handle and sits in a place of honor in my office along side of a Fisk 7.5" English Bowie in a beautiful cherry wood presentation made by Forrest Bogg.

My Spyderco BG-42 Military.
I don't use it much but it is one of my more beloved knives.
Spyderco ZDP Caly Jr.
This is my favorite knife to EDC and I don't see that changing anytime soon, although I do love my UKPK and Native.
BM 710
Classic. SO fun to play with.

Hopefully these two Case slip joints will be kept forever.

Just bought a new one today that will never be sold.

Spyderco Chinook II

Designed by James A. Keating

It'll never pass for a pocket knife in the big City.... But damn if it doesn't feel great in the hand! Comfortable as Hell! (Or is that Heaven). :D

Funny thing here, my keepers production and customs, fixed and folders, all have a chance of being sold or traded if they are not used. the ones I use to hunt, EDCs, and just generally lay marks on I end up always keeping. They lose their marketability and trade power...well to me anyways, once they get some mileage on them. But I love these "Users" all the more for it....nothing like "blooding" that pristine, virgin, high dollar custom skinner for the first time :) memories and sentimental value are recorded on every scratch and ding, these are the keepers.

Don't think these two will go, my EDC's. Have many others I just couldn't sell also.

My first SAK, a Vic Camper, now 23 years old. And my red alox Vic Farmer, brand spank'in new :)

Keepers :
Blackwood Henchman , CF scales and engraved No-1 Henchman , it was a gift from somefriends ( & Neil ).
Rinaldi Matrix : gift from Trace at Vegas Classic 2006
Burke Necker : bought from Jim in Vegas 2006 , its a proto.
Alan Folts baby bear : acquired via a trade with Alan ( one of my knives for one of his ).
Strider AR : cant sell it , its a BRO knife , and its a keeper & a user.
Simonich Urban Raven & a dlc Crowfoot.... cause they are Simonichs.
Ram Maramba ( ZERO KNIVES ) - first knife he ever sold , sold it one and it made its way back to me.... its a keeper now.
Strider PT : cause its always with me and does more than a lil knife should.
Hossom DogTag : like I need to explain why on this one ???? ;)

I have had knives come and go , but those above have sentimental value , therefore they have no price.

Wheeling and dealing is fun and all but it is my most basic pieces that i'll no doubt keep forever. The Buck 119 that was given to me when I got my Chief Scout Award, the 110 that belonged to my grandfather and my chromed kabar MKII with the grooveless leather handle that also belonged to my grandfather.

I would also add that my Shadow III, because it was a gift, as is the awesome sheath that it sits in. Both of these are VERY special to me!
