Not sure if a multitool counts, but since it's a good story:

This February my wife and I were in Egypt on an expedition into the Western Desert. On our way home, sitting in a cafe at the Cairo airport, were were waited on by a young Egyptian kid of no more than 18, who told us (in excellent English) how glad he was we were there (this had been happening the entire trip), and who absolutely refused to accept a tip, despite the miserable state of tourism and airport traffic at the time. As we were getting ready to head to the gate, I realized that for the first time ever I'd forgotten to put my Leatherman Charge Ti in my checked baggage; it was still on my belt. I walked up to the young man and said, "I'd like you to have this." He had clearly never seen a multitool before because when I opened it his mouth dropped in awe and his eyes went wide. He accepted it like it was made of pure gold.

More than worth the loss . . .

Gave my friend a Skyline when he moved to Philly, he did not have any good knives, all china crap. The skyline is his best and he loves it and carries it everyday!
Gave my stepdad a old timer one year.

Oh, I forgot one

I had a good friend moving 5 hours away and he had been talking about getting a leatherman for the past couple weeks, so The day before he left, I ran to Walmart before church and got him one of the ones there

I was really looking for a juice I believe, but the only place around that had them was closed already, I just wish I had thought of it earlier

Oh well, he carries
That leatherman on his belt every day at work now

I gifted my brother a Queen Country Cousin a year or so ago. He's really enjoyed it and used it a great deal.

I made this kitchen knife for my sister-in-law for her birthday last year.

I made this ulu for my mother-in-law. She calls it her "chopper" and uses it daily. I'm glad she uses it frequently because I ruined five pieces of white micarta when making it!

I gave my dad a Busse Game Warden a few years back. He's out in the field a lot setting up bomb tests so I figured he could use it, but I think it sits in a drawer at home. I had these three Sebenzas made for my two brothers and I (our last name is Pepper, so Dr. Pepper has always been a joke in my family). One of them keeps it as a desk knife (he's afraid to take it out and EDC it), the other never uses it. So from now on no more expensive knives as gifts. :)

Gave my brother a spyderco tenacious for his birthday and a blue delica 4 for christmas last year. He's getting married in October so you better believe he's getting something nice...not gonna mention just in case he happens to be lurking around these forums.

When I got married in 1999 I gave our Dad's and my groomsmen a sterling silver Swiss Army Knife each with engraved initials . I had to get one for myself too - you guys understand. Sadly I lost mine within the week on our honeymoon.

Gave my new brother-in-law a Spyderco Centofante 3 as a wedding gift. Gave my brother an Ontario Rat-1 and a JYD 2.2. Gave my other brother-in-law a CRKT Hissatsu because he didn't have a pocket knife and gave a good Friend my new Cryo 2 days ago, he didn't have a pocket knife either.

My dad is real stubborn, and stuck in his ways. He only uses Crest regular toothpaste, Old Spice original deodorant, and has only carried Schrade Old Timer's (the cheap ones you get from Walmart) for as long as I can remember. I have bought him a few new ones in the past when I notice he broke a tip or it just looks real bad, but am really wanting to get him something nicer. I worry though he will just look at and ask what is wrong with what he has, not realizing it is better. I did notice him perk up a bit, when I gifted a Kershaw Blackout to my brother. He handled it and kind of smiled. He is so hard to get a reaction from (it drives my wife crazy) and hard to tell whether he likes something or not. I do not think he really cares about the actual item, more who gave it to him I suppose. I am a bit more materialistic than him at this point in my life:). I really doubt he will go for a clipped locking knife, but hope he might enjoy a real nice slipjoint, even if it is just a Case, but at least an upgrade from his Walmart special Old Timer. I also gave my nephew one of my Sanrenmu's I had, the one with the fake carbon fiber. He saw it and really liked it and put it back. Did not ask if he could have it but really liked the flashy design, so I gave it to him. Hopefully, that may get him interested in knives.
