Knock Offs and what I am doing about it.......Part II

Mike, I've been reading this thread with great interest and I am wondering if you have been able to get in touch with this Kevin Tan? Is he by chance from Malaysia? I thought we had a guy here on the Forums with that name.

Update: Oops! My mistake. It's not the same guy.

-->Supachunk: No it is not the same person. Some pointed this out, including Mike and after some research was done, it was concluded that they are in fact, NOT the same person.
Woulda been kinda cool though.;)

Sounds like Mike is losing faith in his position. So, maybe all that Mike will do about the knock-off problem is talk about it.

fudo, have you read this thread? Mike has already convinced one company in China to stop making knock-offs and is working to get another to do the same. That is already a heck of a lot more than just talking about it.

Keith-I understand, however Mike has made a number of posts detailing how he was going to take Joy Enterprises apart in court. Now that suit has been filed (the proper venue for vindication of Mike's position,) Mike posts,
"No more news for now and nothing will be broadcast in advance. I have too much going on right now to let this crap with Joy slow me down. The knife industry only accounts for about 5% of my income and about 30%-40% of my time. Maybe time to cut it loose or toss the ball to someone else and let them run for a bit. "
This sounds alot like-I realize that I am about to get my butt kicked in court, so it's time to cut and run." Maybe it's just the cynic in me. I would really like to see Mike stick to his guns and put it on Joy Ent. That would be good for all of us.

This is a quote from Mike that appeared on another forum on the 10th of March.

No more games, no BS it is just time to do business. I have made arrangements with Master Cutlery and have yet to be served by Joy. I seriously doubt I ever will as my lawyer says it is a standard BS letter.

Nothing has been posted there since. It looks like Joy may be having second thoughts about this lawsuit.

I stand corrected on the paid memberships.
I stand by everything else I said.
Cloning was ok when you did it but now that you've "seen the light" we need to vigorously pursue these scoundrels.
Actually, I think stopping them is a good thing. It's just ironic that it has to be done by you.
Lifter out.

Lifter: that is exactly what I thought -IRONIC - when I saw the thread title and who posted it!!

Entertaining thread.... two "kings of clones" fighting!

PS: Anybody elese remebers the first BOSS (Dragon Forge) desingns before they were modified?

/edited/ for spelling errors (and I am sure there are more of them)

Mike,

Since they are knocking off everyone and thier brother. How about a nice big class action lawsuit? I mean hell knocking off people like Buck? The big and the not so big folks in the knife biz should ban together and do something about these people.

Regards,

Tom Carey

The only problem is that many of the big manufacturers have almost come to accept that "knockoffs happen". They dont really seem to do alot about them, thinking that it might not be worth the cost if they will just show up again next week.

I would love for them to band together and do something, even if it was just stopping them from coming into the country.

I am still yet to be served by Joy. I am still doing my part and I assure you, I am not just sitting here doing nothing. There is much to do, and much more I can do, but for now I am trying to get the Cheetah and other knives to market and insure that the desingers get taken care of.

It is not an easy task. Imagine if Benchmade was trying to get the companies who make the knock-offs to do the right thing a pay royalties and more. How far would they go? Would they do what I have already done?

I have not done anything more to Joy and I will not, unless of course I am served, then it is WAR! I hold my PERFECT record, as far as law suits is concerned, as a testement of what is right and what is wrong. What Joy is doing IS WRONG. She owes the designers money and it will be a cold day in hell before she ever gets one dime out of my ass.

She knows that what she did was wrong. I could really care less if she feels she has ANY legal ground. Many companies and individuals get away with **** because of technical issues.

But I have the right to protect my interests and I also have the right to EXPRESS my feelings. I am a member of the PRESS and I enjoy any and ALL of the freedoms it alows me which includes revealing SCUM BAGS and THEIVES like Joy Cutlery and ALEX SHELTON.

When you sell a knife that is desinged by a person you should do the right thing and take care of that person. I will try my best and if I fail at least I will know I tried, and did the right thing.

Mr. Bryan will be reading this post and again I encoorage your to advise your client to do the right thing. If you do not discontinue the lines you sell that are knock-offs of BOSS product the you need to pay royalties to the designers. If you do not then you are SCUM BAGS, simple as that.

CYA in Court PAL!

All of that name calling and big talk is just that talk. When you talk like that it dosent sound much like a respectable bussiness person that wants my money or understanding. If you are so sure you are right then stop ducking the process servers and tear them up in court like you said you can.If you are right and they are what you say they are stop calling names and do something besides these grand standing displays for sympathy.People are only going to say they are on your side for so long and then common sense will have to prevail. They are going to see through the BS and expect you to stop talking and start walking the walk to stop this or actually show some results in this big battle of yours. The longer this goes on the worse it is making you look...Talk is cheap By tthe way they will go on with out you and there will be a judgement without you even being there if you keep ducking the process servers. They will serve you one way or another and they will have there day in court.Believe me it happened to me......

blackeye4you,

Do you actually think I in any way am ducking process server? I have the balls to be at the same show as her and confront her and even show up at the very next show ASD/AMD and she knew I would be there. I am fairly easy to find but I in no way will go out of my way to do a damn thing for her or you for that matter. My interests are in protecting BOSS and the designers to the best of my ability but again I will not make it my life long endevour either. I think when everything is said and done I will have done more than most on this issue. I feel fairly confident in what has already been done, has done some good.

I am not asking for your money or your understanding. Just telling you what is going on is grandstanding? Sure I am colorful but that is my style, my way of doing things. I don't sugarcoat or bull ****. I tell it like it is and many in here have seen this over time. I speak my mind and if it gets me in trouble so be it. At least I did not sit behind a keyboard and beat my chest, I did something real and tangible, what have you done?

So if you don't want to hear any reports on what is going on then don't read this thread. Simple huh?

i dont know much about mikes past or care about it

but i think him working against knockoffs is a good thing.

plus, even i dont think i would be able to do anything about knockoffs even if i wanted to, since it doesnt affect me personally. he has grounds (yes, they are financial) to give him a good enough reason to pursue it.

good luck with it all

Daniel

I was looking through the archives and after reading this realized just how proud I am of Turber and the superb job he is doing to rid the world of knock-offs!!!

What a B.S. artist:p

Ira, frpm what I understand, Mike is pretty well out of the knife business these days. I doubt he has much interest in continuing this fight.
