Knocking off the Shine 30 Day Challenge

Patina needs work, I often find I dislike the 'acne' look so I use metal polish and start again, seems to take to it better after a couple of cleanings. As for bolster work, my tip is a loaded leather strop it can take off even unpleasant dings in its stride. Also, if you stop regular use of a carbon knife you may find you want to clean it up before use.

This is not after 30 days mind....

"acne look" 🤣 , yeah, I'll give you that one Will.
I can also see where you're coming from with letting it build up and cleaning it of a few times seems to lay the foundations of a good well weathered settled in patina, one that serves a purpose as well as looking nice.

I should have taken more pictures of the tear down, I only took the one picture before getting to focused. Had to tear apart the front end of my car today to fix that leaking radiator. Way to complex of a job for just a radiator.

But its all back together and running great again.

Almost forgot a picture today on the last day of 30 days so here's a quick picture I took after emptying my pockets and having the sudden realization. I'm going to keep carrying this one for a little hill longer. I would say until I get bored or get the itch to carry another but I already have the itch haha now it's just a battle of will for fun. 😅

That's pretty much what I've always done. I may carry the same knife for a couple days, or six months. I have "a few" knives, and while I've never bought a knife that I didn't intend to carry & use, there are only a handful that always end up back in my pocket.

Well my 30 days are up (it's March 31), ;) but I thought I'd finish out the month anyways. It was fun but it was definitely a challenge to carry the same knife everyday and I'm ready to change it up! Here is my day 30 pic, shine is knocked off pretty good.

I'm going to restart this one today but I have to make sure the focus will be on a knife with some kind of regular carbon steel blade instead of stainless. It's odd that my trapper looking exactly the same after a month has sucked some of the joy from this. I guess a hundred years ago it would be mind blowing. Today, different perspectives.

Thats an interesting point 🤣 nowadays stainless steel has lost it's magic in a way because we're so used to it

As I exit this challenge and move to the next I'm going to force myself to stop being a stick in the mud.

Once again, the stainless factor is pretty top notch. Leather in an often times sweaty pocket all day and she doesn't have a single spot. The bone handle was very non slip never once causing issue. The dual blades came in handy as an instant backup once one went dull. Getting back to the stainless bit, it was a nice feeling at the end of a long workday to just empty pockets, hit the shower, dinner, and crash. Zero worry. That's not a small thing even a hundred years later.

I have to vote for stainless as well. Living in SW Florida the humidity is hard to believe until you experience it; I mean even leather can rust down here! ;)
It is extremely nice to pocket and use a 70+ year old knife and at the end of another long, hot day in its seven decade lifetime it still looks new. I love it!

The hardest part is learning not to try to catch the knife as its falling. Once you get past that, anyone can enjoy the sound of a knife clattering on a tile floor instead of a bleeding hand.
Absolutely. I made that mistake before.

My logic is my hand will heal my knife won't! 🤣

Kidding of course, I once "caught" a Buck 110 . If you can call embedding the blade a half inch into my palm "catching" 😅
