"know i shouldnt, but im porr - NICK mod (pics)"

Obviously no one is going to ask, but it has to be asked :)

How can you possibly use being poor as the rationalization in your thread title when you're modifying a knife that cost somewhere around $300? :)

Now if you had bought a Laser Cutlery kitchen set that costs $19.99 for ten knives I could see that working out....but a Busse N.I.C.K. takes away from your credibility of being poor, lol ...just an observation ;)

poor is a reletive term. i can be wearing my 1,000$ *bought for less on seconary market* langlitz jacket, with my 60$ carhart work pants, 300$ 1/4 le sj, 200$ pr, 115$ leatherman, 225$ danner acadia boots, 200$ basic 9 in bag, and still stuggle to pay for my car insurance. at that point, i woudlnt technically be poor, but id be in the same basic situation of a poor person. the main difference is that instead of having nothing and struggling, i have a lot of things that i can sell in dire times and still be struggling with nice things.

by being poor (to poor to spell correctly apperently :( ) i meant that i dont have the kind of money it would take to have it modified at busse combat making it an actual variant. instead i take the cheaper route of using the poor mans workshop - the dremel to get my desired results, wich also results in my now relying on the crafstmanship of the blade instead of the warrantee. wich also means that i will likely never sell this knife because of the lack of warrantee.

i know that i should modify a rare knife that a lot of people would like to have when i could go out and have someone make it for me, but i have rather high end desires, and infi is one of them, and while i can afford to have someone make it for me out of a2, i cant afford one out of infi.

that being said, i am buying another one to make an edc so ya... there are a lot of hypocritical points to my statement of "being poor". the funds to buy this new one come from a transfer of goods though, specifically a collection of 115 excellent dvd's that was my pride and joy for a long time (not a bad one among them. all classics - no "block busters"). right now i just need the money more then i need the dvd's i never watch. and while im at it, i figure that i might as well have the money and a new knife :D

aikido has its good points, but im more of a fan of aiki jujutsu daitoryu, and aiki budo. most aikido instructors/teachers/scholars make it into to much of a soft form, when it can be truly brutal.

i cannot read kanji, though it would be nice to be able to.

just went ahead and sanded the handles down to about a 120 grit, and i am quite pleased with the result :)

almost a sticky grip now, especially when wet. not as pretty, and it dries with a kind of grey scratched finish, but its a beater so i want it comfortable, not pretty - bueatiful perhaps, but not pretty

Ok, I feel for you on this one. If I ever sold my dvd collection I'd surely be in depression for a while :D

Yes, I've done similar; I prefer no texturing on the micarta but with about a 60 grit finish. It doesn't create stress spots on your hands and gives you a fantastic grip (which, as you said, actually gets better with moisture).

lol....

heres the list of dvd's that was in it (i also had 28days later that wasnt present when i made the list, so im giving it to a freind). i know that ebay links arent allowed, but its a completed auction, so i think its okay. if not i can remove it (or have it removed without complaint)

theres a lot of dvd's id have liked to have, but thats the difference between personal favorites/personally important to important films (for their time, genre, country, film in general, phylosphy etc). this is every film ive ever truly loved. but, i can get them all back from netflix with a dvd burning within a year, so its not such a bad loss.... did go for a rather low price however.... ( i also have cd copies of gummo, wonderful days, ichi the killer, visitor q, versus, samurai x, lost highway, and a bunch of others, as well as a bunch of tv series like clone high)

i actually kind of like the idea of texturing, even though it may hurt/damage your hand a little. kind of like what cliff stamp said about using captains of crush and then using the gnurled handles of the chris reeves one peice line. after the captains of crunch, wich are seriously gnurled, the reeves didnt seem so harsh on the hand. not that i wouldnt like to keep my lovers hands, but hard calloused hands that can take off burning pipes and walk away reletively unphased has its advantages.

28 Days Later (not to be confused with 28 Days, lol) was outstanding!!!!! I bought it for some viewing entertainment last New Years Eve with some friends. You have the Alien 4 Movie set listed... I sure hope you only gave up the original Legacy collection and not the new Quadrilogy, which is now one of my favorite box sets. Took me over two weeks to watch everything. You gave up the Abyss!!! Oh dude, I feel so bad for you :) I'm glad I'm not the only one who owns Labrynth. I still remeber renting that for the first time back in junior high, LOL :)

I used to have an up to date collection at DVD Profiler, but its been quite a while since I've logged in to update it.

I can probably help you out with at least the Matrix. If you'd to own it again, drop me an email.

i wont be starting a collection any time soon... renting and burning takes a lot of time and energy, and with school and work and a massive backlog of dover thrift edition literature id like to get through, its gonna be on the back burner for at least a year.

ive been meaning to get a dvd burner for about a year and half now, and probably wont for some time to come.

a lot of those, edward scissor hands, the labrynth, the dark crystal, return to oz, the professional (wich makes my skin crawl now that ive owned and seen leon, the orignal unmutilated version) were movies i saw between the ages of 6-12, wich leaves a pretty big impact on you. they were the basis for a lot of fantasy play, wich is why i wanted to own them. having to run on pennies just gets old after a while...

I see that (Leon) The Professional was in there. Man, that has to be one of my all time favorites. Reno, Oldman, and Portman are just sooo well cast as each respective character.

A very under-rated flick.

you did see leon right? not the american release that was titled the professional?

leon included a scene where matilda plays russian rullet in order to get leon to "be" with her, and leon explains to her why he came to america, and his past love life.

leon = a romantic drama
professional = action flick

by removing the entire love story between matilda and leon, they change the very essence of the film, in my opinion, destroying it.

I'll have to find a copy of Leon. Unfortunately, I'm only familiar with the butchered version.....

i see you have gummo. says alot about you i think ;) i have the sound track also wear danner acadia boots exclusively

final mod for NICK # 161. i have another nick coming in that im going to make into the same gyuto style that this one was originally modded to be (i still have the steel cut off to use as a template), and im to impatient to wait to make this one when the new one comes in, so i modded the already modded nick....

doesnt feel as cool as the sj being without a choil, but i think i'll get more use out of that area of the blade then i will the choil.
