Koyote Knives Leuku Bushcrafter Passaround

Doing great! I've been enjoying the knife, and I will have it shipped out tomorrow.

I've got a few pictures to post as well. I've enjoyed getting a chance to handle a Koyote knife and sheath! At first I didn't think I would like the knife. The handle was a tad small, although the butt wasn't flared so it was still comfortable. The built in guard was a little awkward, as I felt it pulled my hand towards the blade in a weird way. I'd like the change to be a little more dramatic, than so nicely radius'ed.

I liked the blade shape and its width. But, I just don't know if I'm a convex man! It was very sharp, but I had some troubles with it as far as making curls and precise cuts (though this is probably due to my inexperience with the edge geometry). My F1 has a full convex, and it seems to preform a little better, perhaps due to the thinner edge? My full flat Krein Bushcraft seemed to slice better as the edge is much thinner than the Koyote.

I used it to baton some light wood, and it did great. There wasn't much chopping ability, but this was to be expected.

I really liked the sheath, though if the knife guard area was lower profile, the sheath would also match this. The knife fit well, and was definitely secure.

I'll try to post my pictures soon.

Christof, would you like him to send it back to you before the Canuks get a hold of it?

We had similar issues with the Fiddleback passaround I ran......

Sure! Unless whoever is next wants to thin it out or Mike or someone wants to mess with it. I'll do it gladly but I'm not religious about it :D

I'm sure Big Mike won't mind.

Peripatew, please send the knife back to me when you are done with it.

Thanks,

Tony

Yeah Tony, if it’s coming back to you, bring it over and I’ll re-profile the edge right away. ;)

Plus I know we have some other gear to swap.

Tony- Mike- that's cool, no pressure, I could do it if it's at all unreasonable to do it in CT. Though i gather Mike has a way with edges, so that makes me happy :D

peripatew: The guard on that one is a bit more robust than i'd been making in the past, and isn't something that is automatic on my knives, by any means. But I'm a bit confused as to what you are saying with the pulling your hand part. Top or bottom of your hand? I'm so used to modified grips these days I may be failing a bit in the classic fist grip area!

Maybe tomorrow my friend.

The fifteen stitches that it took to repair the damage in left leg shouldn’t slow me down too much. :o

Don’t ask, …yes a blade related injury.

Yowsers on the trousers BigMike - that sounds painful!

15 is a lot of stitches!

When you’re as big as I am, 15 don’t look THAT big.

Though I must say, looking at all the cut muscle tissue inside that gaping hole was a bit disconcerting. :barf:

The injury happened while doing some trail clearing on Monday morning.

The tool was a Bark River Clax. :o

I was chopping a deadfall with a loose grip, a glancing blow pulled it from my hand and let it go, instead of just falling to the forest floor, it caught a sapling just right and came back at me point first.

After triage I had to hike a mile and a half back to the trail head before driving to the ER.

A little sore, but I was back on the trail today and was able to cover a couple of miles of easy terrain without problem.

The lesson here is to always carry first aid gear,

...that hike out could have been a real problem if I could not stop the flow of blood from that big gash.

Knife went out today. Sorry it took me so long, I had my first funeral to do, so I was overwhelmed. I'll post pics and my review soon!

Ok, I got the knife back today. It is pretty sharp, but not like how it was when I first got hold of it.

Mike, call me when you have a chance. We got to get together so I can pass this to you for a lil working over.

Will do Tony, …I know you need a few others worked on too.

And you better take back your RAT RC-5 before I start stripping the blade coating and shaping some wood handles, truly making it my own.
