Lanny's Clip Thread

The Lanny's clip is one of my all time favorite patterns, I've been blessed to own some prime examples from many customer makers.

This was my first ever direct from Mr. Menefee. Loved the carbon fiber on it, great rat tail bolsters too.

Rip, I lost this one in a house fire. :barf:

Keith Johnson has the Lanny's clip down pat.

He really did a great job on this one. The knife is great, but the communications Keith provided were the best part of the entire process.
Great guy!!!

This one was my all time favorite carry knife for a long time.

John Knocked this one out of the park. His knives are built to use and this one wouldn't quit on a job ever!!!

Lost it in a hay field playing a good ol' fashion game of hide and seek..... :barf:

Another from Mr. Loyd.

I've finally got a Lanny's Clip coming my way!! Brent Cramer is making me one and I have no doubt it's going to be awesome. His LCs are awesome to behold in pics, can't wait to have mine in hand!!

Honest question here - what makes a Lannys Clip? Is it the pronounced swedge? Just trying to learn.

I'll post this here also since I'm toting it today freshly back from Dr. T.

Here's my thoughts on the matter from earlier in the thread.

I'm not sure it's the blade itself that makes it a Lanny's clip as much as the knife as a whole. Here are the things that I've picked up on that make it so appealing to me.
  • Clip takes up around 55-60 percent of the blade. I prefer the convex clips with a curve to them, but I've seen several versions where it appears to be a straight edge.
  • deep swedge
  • saber grind with the pull on the flat
  • large nail nick or long pull that butts up to the swedge/clip transition
  • tip is nearly on the center of the blade, rather than being closer to the spine or the leading edge.
  • gentle curve to the handle that allows for a great blade to handle ratio
  • single bolster with rat tail (although I'm partial to the capped versions I've seen, which is another reason I'm considering going with the extra cash for a custom.)

Thought I would post pics of this beautiful Jalomo. I'm amazed at the fit and finish on this, and it's truly heavy duty at 4.5" closed.

My first Lanny's Clip, think I'm in love with the pattern.

Nice little knife dbla. I bet that's great for watch pocket carry.

I really like the Lanny's Clip just never pulled the trigger on one.

Gary thanks for the link a great, short explanation from the man himself.

A while back I saw a Lanny's Clip and fell in love. I recently finished my first slip joint. It's definitely not as nice as the others in this thread, but it's a start. 4.25" closed, CPM 154 blade and Warwood scales. I'll be grinding the next one a little differently.
