Not bad. They look like my very first lanyards. A bit of advise that I learned the hard way is that you can use just one piece of paracord for making the cobra stitch lanyards, which makes it harder for them to come apart.

I also learned that the snake's head knot is a lot easier to pull off, and has a better look to it, especially if you want to incorporate a bead in the design.

Does anybody know how else I can "customize" these knives?

That depends on just how extreme you want to get in customization.

I just want something to make it special or a little different

Looks good.

I tie mine off and then burn them so they don't come loose. Works well so far.

mannnnnn I have def gone lanyard-nuts once or twice. Next thing I know, I have this monstrously wonky 11 inch long by 1 inch thick rope cascading from the butts of each one of my quotidian-carry blades lol

This might be a dumb question, but are lanyards functional beyond having some extra paracord if you need it?

It can give extra grip. And style

Decorative, a little more area to grab hold of. I like a short fob on smaller knives, makes for easy removal from pocket with or without a clip.

It gives a bit more purchase on a shorter handle and I use them to pull a knife out of a pouch or pocket.

All my knives have lanyards that consist of a lanyard knot and snake knots.

That's all well and good. The problem is with some companies, especially the likes of Spyderco, the warranty can be voided by all manner of unauthorized work being done to it.

I drilled my '60's KaBar USMC in two places at the top of the handle, high up, 180 degrees apart and up through the pommel (which was tough drilling; stainless steel) then was able to thread paracord down and have a contiguous handle-wrap//wrist lanyard with a single length of cord--leave pigtail for lanyard, down the handle then back up, wrapping around the handle, back out the top, matching pigtail--then tied off the ends with a bead so it's a slip-loop lanyard. I left plenty of tail for a good size loop if necessary. Completed it hangs about 1/2 to 3/4 down the scabbard when sheathed. Use any kind of knots and ornaments you like.

Looks great and increased the utility of the knife. With a tight integrated wrist loop you can come all the way back on the handle using the cord leverage and really increase the chopping ability. Plus, it's nice to be able to drop the knive a second then have it right back in hand during certain camp chores. And it gives you a great lanyard matching the handle wrap.

Yes, they are.

On a larger fixed blade a wrist lanyard can increase the utility of the knife, especially for chopping or slashing brush as it nearly doubles the leverage when you can go all the way back on the handle and use the strap leverage provided by the lanyard. It's also great if you're working over something when you cannot drop the knife...like the lake. It also allows you to momentarily drop the knife then have it immediately back in hand. I am talking a loop lanyard of course. I just slip-loop mine with a bead or something. If you don't want the loop just move the bead and it becomes hanging strands.

To say nothing of any potential defense situation where it can be used as a thumb lanyard as well.

And there is a bit of truth in the "extra paracord when you need it" thing. You can get many yards of good tie when you gut just a small length of paracord.

For my folders I tie a Reeve coil on most leaving various length pigtails, dependent upon knife size. On folders a lanyard is more of a convenience for pulling the knife from a pocket or case--it also orients you to the knife without having to look down. I use leather more than paracord for my folder lanyards...and if I slip-loop the pigtail with a bead it's just a thumb size loop.

EDIT: Another thing you can do is make your lanyard on a small key ring. That way it can be transferred from knife to knife if they have lanyard holes. If you decide you like lanyards then you can put them directly on the knives. Or you can dress one knife in different lanyards this way. The key ring will also act as a swivel.
