lanyards

I would like to, I think they're pretty cool (ya, I said that) and I have tried....

Can't get over something dangling from my pocket unfortunately.

Yeah, I have a fob on my watch and wore a lanyard on my revolver when I was hiking in Alaska during the moose rut.
All of this stuff kind of boils down to contemporary usage...whether grammatically correct or not.
Communication is key...

I haven't really used FOB's or lanyards on my knives, but I had some leather cord hanging around and wanted a more reliable to way to retrive my smooth and slick Kershaw Shallot from my pocket so I threw some of the cord through the lanyard hole and its actually served its purpose quite well. I don't think I'd want one on all my knives, but for some, I'm now more open to the idea (I also kinda like the aesthetic too):

Was never an interest, nor a need. So all my my knives' lanyard holes remain virgins.😆
It just adds to the whole "pocket jewelry" fad AFAIC.

Then there is the whole lanyard bead craze that's sweeping the knife community. I've seen beads that were more expensive than the knives they were attached to

But hey, if it works for you go for it. I aint gonna judge.

Lanyard with a diamond knot near the knife to help draw the knife out, and a celtic bead that I use as a keeper when I slip the lanyard onto my wrist.

and what I nick named a BobTail Fob, a diamond knot to aid in drawing the knife out, the black cord is a whipping knot to help keep it from moving into the path of the blade.

This.

Well don't knock a small fob till you try it at least once I was one of those guys that thought it was kinda stupid but then I tried it and as long as the fob is 2 inches are less I like it especially if you have a deep pocket clip hey just give it a shoot and see what you think if you never used one you shouldn't commit until you have

Yup. Now that I'm done making my lanyard, let me just pop the "clip" in my Steyr...

If I were the bushcrafting sequoia felling sort, I might use a lanyard. Otherwise, my holes have yet to be spelunked.

I use lanyards on some medium sized knives and on some bigger knives and choppers for safety. When chopping or doing messy work like skinning or pig sticking, I use a lanyard sized to either go over the wrist or be wrapped around the back of the hand and over a thumb. Makes for a good secure hand hold even when the handle might get slippery.

I use a fob on some smaller pocket knives.

only on smaller blades, for ease of extraction

and some MTs as I often have to let the multitool go to grab or use another tool or thing

especially when wearing gloves.

How are you liking that crunch?

not a Crunch! My crunch is this one

the one you see is a discontinued multitool made by Schrade, the excellent and rare to find 5WR.

It bites as hard as the Crunch but is longer and a bit heavier

It was a collaboration between Shcrade and the Vise-Grip brand

I really like that tool! Lanyard aids to grab it from the sheath I carry it in when using it with gloves

I use it as a pull tab on smaller knives/multitools, to aid in taking it out of the sheath. This is especially helpful in the winter when I have thicker gloves on. I usually use zipper pulls instead of "lanyards" (small knife, small lanyard).

Other pluses: some knives do not have a pocket clip; bright colors can help find a dark knife which was dropped in the grass or misplaced in darker environments.

Oops, my bad! Still pretty neat though.

Depends on the knife. The only one I have set up right is for a small fixed blade. It sits deep in the sheath so it's just easier to pull out.

Whats the point in being able to take a SAK out of it's sheath with heavy gloves, when you still have to take off the gloves to open the blade?

I find that lanyards provide a much better grip on the small two-finger-sized folders I sometimes carry in my change pocket--e.g., a tiny Al Mar Osprey--and they add some extra security wrapped around my fingers on fixed blades. But, often as not, I just use 'em as a cosmetic touch to personalize a favorite fondling knife:

No need for a lanyard/fob/whatever to extract a knife. And with most normal-size SAKs, that little pierced ear digs into my palm in a way that comes close to hitting a nerve. Very uncomfortable. I cut them off and grind the thing smooth.

For historical reasons, I usually leave the bail on campers, but even there I'd be happy if they didn't exist. Also, I'm slightly allergic to advertising that I'm carrying, with some dongle hanging out of my pocket. Just me — do whatever works for you.
