lanyards

There isn't a need to have the lanyard dangling out of the pocket, I'll slip it up beneath my belt or if I'm in a high traffic area for added security I'll loop the lanyard around my belt or belt loop and put the knife through that, making it so it won't fall out or be taken unawares by someone with sticky fingers.

and you can also let the knife hang into your pocket, making the clip hidden if you need to. While this doesn't make it immediately available, it doesn't take that long to get to your knife, even while sitting down, the cord is pretty handy. That plus you'll have extra paracord for emergencies if needed.

Wow, that's actually a pretty nifty idea! Might have to give that a try...🤔

Thanks, most times at work, I'll take the end of the lanyard and put it into the watch pocket of my pants, that way it isn't just hanging out, but kept closer to the body while still providing a quick means of drawing the knife, especially while sitting, as sometimes it's hard to retrieve a knife from your pocket while sitting down, but the cord provides a better access to the knife.

Depends on the knife for me. I have lanyards and fobs on some folders to get them out of my pocket when wearing gloves; but on fixed blades I can't get them to work for me. On the big blades, like machetes, they are a help.

I like the lanyard on my small insingo
I made one similar on a couple of other knives (ZT0801 and mini grip) but that is it...

I love the concept, and I have a boatload of paracord at home, but every time I put one on a knife that I regularly carry it gets in the way. I also don't like it hanging out of my pocket as I feel it could help it snag on things. I do use paracord on other things but I struggle with it actually being useful on a knife handle. Fixed blades are a different story completely. I put them on my fixed blades so that it can help with blade retention by putting it around my wrist.

Lately, I have been taking off the pocket clips to my folders and tying a short fob to attach on the end. I have found it works better for me than a clip, because its more discreet and I can put it in any pocket and not worry about moving the clip. I may wind up going back to clips, in which case I will still tie a fob on the end because it makes it easier for me to draw the knife. YMMV.

I've known several that were right against a fob/lanyard, and a few that once they tried it, they wondered how they did without it.

It's not for everyone for sure, on my smaller knife the SAK Executive I have a shorter one on there and it helps to fish it out of my pocket.

I have tried lanyards a few times now on my regular carry folding knives, but always seem to remove them shortly after. I really like how they look, but find them getting in my way more than helping in most cases. I've had them get caught up on things in the past as well, didn't lose any knives but had some close calls. With that being said, I like to loose carry a second smaller knife in my left front pocket. With these I usually remove the clip and add a small lanyard, just long enough for some extra traction. I find it helps with both the grip on the knife, and one handed opening! The only other time I use a lanyard is when I'm canoeing or kayaking, losing knives in rivers is not cool! Mr. Graleys little trick works wonderful in these cases. Also as previously mentioned, they can sometimes be useful with fixed blades or machetes.

Helpful instructional write up on double cords. Easy to follow.

Appreciated, good sir.

so what? Most of my Multitools (SOG, Gerber, Leatherman) have lanyards as well :D

...

My remark was in response to a quote suggesting that my multitool fob didn't serve a purpose. As you can see from my first post, I have a leatherman with fob in the pic.
