Large (4in) Flipper Recommendation

Looking for a decent quality flipper with good smooth action but wanting a 4 inch or larger blade really narrows down the field, seems like everyone's afraid to break the 3.5 in mark. Hoping someone might have some suggestions for a large flipper. I might possibly consider a 3.75in blade recommendation if the knife is really good but I'm really hoping to keep it at least 4in.

Would like to keep it under $400
Don't care about titanium or bling, more concerned about a structurally solid knife with solid lock versus cosmetics stuff.
Not a steel snob, no preference on steel
No real preference on blade style it's mostly going to be a fidget toy that likely will never cut anything

What are you looking to do with the knife? Does steel matter? Smooth like ball bearings or doesn't matter? Lotta info needed to help you properly.

For instance, I had a buddy that wanted something similar. Got a 6" straight razor. Stupidest thing ever, but he loved it. Till it closed on his fingers after I had just sharpened it. Probably needed something else.

For several years, I have loved my ZT0452. The relatively narrow handle somehow fits my monster hands real nicely. 4.1" blade. And it has the ZT flipper fidget factor, so it's a lock for that criterion. And I always prefer to buy American where I can.

That's a great call. Man, I have flip-flopped about buying a 0452 for years now. I should probably just do it.

It might be a tough get for $400, but the full size Spartan Harsey is 4". That's about $100 under retail for a PJ, but I've seen crazier deals go down in the marketplace.

But that's not really a flipper. Hellova knife and one of my favorite EDC. I mean they can be sorta flipped out with a hard push. If that fits the definition of a flipper, then I would say a Microtech Amphibian or Benchmade Adamas would fit the bill. Maybe a touch under 4", but hell for stout.

However, my vote for a true 4" flipper is that 0452.

Arguably the finest ZT produced.

My bad. I missed the flipper part.
Maxace? If you don't mind Chinese knives, their stuff is top notch. I think 80% of the stuff they make is 4"+.
If you want to go really crazy check out the stuff from Midgards Messer. They have an 11.5" folder 🤣

I like civivi. They do great flippers. I don't go in to 4 inch territory but I am pretty sure they do them.

Lots of good recommendations here. Really wish the 0452 had a thumb stud or hole opening, but that's not a deal breaker. It's in the consideration mix.

The Kansept and Liong Mah stuff looks amazing and fits exactly what I'm looking for. Not very big on the "Made in China" aspect, I've learned to overlook it in regard to many things because of how high the quality is on some of their products, but sadly the stigma is still there for me when it comes to knives.

+1 for the ZT0452CF

I really like mine.
It is light, easy to carry and slice well.

The action is good after a short break in period (at least for mine)

My only complain is the pocket clip that is switched for an MXG gear

I'm going to say your best option is the Rike Lamella. The action on it is unreal for the price point, a lot of people compare the feel of the flipper to customs. It's very drop shut and has a nice detent, plus the construction and design are really interesting. The persian shape of the blade keeps it relatively lightweight for the size, so it doesn't need as much force to flip open. You also have the option of using the thumbstud. It's just within your price range and has a 4 inch blade.

At about half your budget you could look at the We Reiver; it has the 4" blade and a smooth action, but the detent is too light IMO (flipper works better if you push into the handle a little), so it's not as satisfying as a fidget toy.

👆 love the MSI and it was great until I bought a demko ad20.5 Sharksfoot the fidget factor is a 9/10. But it's to short for the list here.
