Large (4in) Flipper Recommendation

There are knife retail sites that you can add your specifications and the site finds all the knives with your criteria. I did a search with your criteria, and it displayed over 800 knives with 155 different knives in stock. Good luck.

I wholeheartedly echo several others and recommend ZT0452. Even at the increased price currently at ~$270 I do not see any other ~4" production flippers that can compete with this knife. I have five of them.

It might be a tough get for $400, but the full size Spartan Harsey is 4". That's about $100 under retail for a PJ, but I've seen crazier deals go down in the marketplace.
Outstanding suggestion!!!! And these do show up here for $400.

As a brand, ZT made the most 4" flippers that I know of . . .

Currently, the best choice IMO would be the ZT 0452 which still being made, is the cheapest & most widely available & is the most pocket friendly.

--------------------------------------

Other 4" ZTs that qualify but that may be hard to find, too expensive and/or not very pocket friendly . . .

ZT 0200
ZT 0600

--------------------------------------

ZT made many other knives in the 3 3/4" range, all of which have been discontinued, including but not limited to the:

ZT 0300
ZT 0400
ZT 0560
ZT 0777
ZT 0804
ZT 0909
ZT 0920

--------------------------------------

AFAIK, the only 4" flipper that Spyderco made was the Tropen which was discontinued in 2023 but can still be found for sale at retail & on the 2ndary market.

Spyderco also made a 3.75" flipper called the Mamba which is rarely seen today but it's too large to carry and probably too expensive now anyway.

However, I'm been reminded in the thread that Spyderco is still making the 3.8" Amalgam flipper which is is an affordable & pocket friendly slicer that's available direct from Spyderco, it's dealers & on the 2ndary market.

--------------------------------------

If you're willing to consider 4" knives with Spydie holes (instead of flipper tabs), you should also consider these widely available Spyderco models:

Police
Resilience
Military

--------------------------------------

+4" non-flipper Spydies that are discontinued, hard to find and probably too expensive now, include the:

Calpyso - the Original not the Sprint (4.02"); the Sprint is shorter (3.94")
Farid K2 (4.54")
Hundred Pacer (4.00")
Szabo Folder (4.60")
Tatanka (5.05')

--------------------------------------

PS: With only 1 exception, I own 1 or more variations of each of the knives mentioned above, including 5 variations of the ZT 0452. The exception is the Tatanka which I owned for awhile but sold because it was so ridiculously large. I also owned & sold an XM24 because I thought it was too large.

PPS: I also like my 4" Olamic Rainmaker & my 3.8" Shiro Urus flippers but it would be hard to find an example of either one for less than $400. However, the much cheaper 3 7/8" Real Steel Megalodon stands up pretty well to them and gets a lot of carry time in my pocket.

The Kansept and Liong Mah stuff looks amazing and fits exactly what I'm looking for. Not very big on the "Made in China" aspect, I've learned to overlook it in regard to many things because of how high the quality is on some of their products, but sadly the stigma is still there for me when it comes to knives.
My Colibri is spectacular value for the money, that's all I'm saying.

Another vote for the ZT 0452. Hasn’t left my pocket since I bought it a couple years ago. It carries so well I forget it’s there which isn’t usually the case with such a large folder. It’s been used and borderline abused with zero issues. When I sold off the collection I kept the 0452 as my edc, paired with a SAK classic. It’s a damn good knife. image.jpg

Civivi cogent, I think it lacks in the length area but that knife took abuse no knife should endure, after being clipped to my vest after a cold snap the action felt gritty, even after cleaning, I figured it got frost bit, finally decided to try to destroy it by holding a lit lighter under the pivot assembly and locking mechanism. No damage to anything... it was completely black but still very usable. 5/5/5 stars

Next time you decide to destroy something with fire, use a torch...or build a good fire and toss it in.

I appreciate everyone chiming in. I'm closely looking at some of the suggestions here, though at this point I feel like if I choose anything BUT the zt 4052 I'm likely to get swarmed :)

Follow-up: By "flipper" I assumed that you meant assisted-opening, or one step shy of an automatic/switchblade knife.

A "flipper" only means that the blade be opened by use of a flipper tab. Flippers can be assisted or not.

An auto is a knife whose blade can be opened simply by pushing a button or other spring release device.
