LARGE folder?

I am with Joe on this, from his first post. We don't need a big camp knife, we need a big fighter.

I JUST purchased a Cold Steel Vaquero Grande because it is almost all that is out there. I don't want a big dagger-straight liner-lock like the MAXX, so what else is out there?

To make a defensive folder, IMO, it needs to be curvy, because this is not primarily a stabbing tool but a carving tool. We need forward curve in the handle for reach and presentation to the target. And the lock has to be substantial (exactly the two reasons why I lost interest in the MAXX).

I really think the SIFU was a very good attempt and it could inspire a lot more.

I think tip down carry is best for a large folder because the weight is more comfortably distributed. One complaint I have of the SIFU is the substantial weight of the locking mech and hinge, hanging way down and flopping on my leg.

I would be plenty happy with a big stout version of Spyderco's Catcherman. It is curved just right (also see the AFCK for a similar example of perfect curves)

Another perfect example would be a larger version of the Wayne Goddard. I think Spyderco hit the nail on the head with the Goddard, and a larger version would be perfect.

Add your choice of lock and materials, I am focusing on the perfect overall shape and inspiration. The shape has to be right first, otherwise all the fancy materials and locks in the world will not get me to carry the knife.
Whatever you do, don't let someone that does not understand defensive knives design this knife. I am sick of seeing "fighting knives" that are obviously designed by someone that has no clue. Maybe you need an accomplished filipino martial artist and knife knut of many years to design the perfect large folding fighter from beginning to end (thaddeus2@cox.net) ;)

A huge inexpensive Goddard would be a great carry knife. But if you want to make it fancy and add nice materials and features, I would pay more also.

Don't even THINK of making it less than 5.5" blade if you want "mega folder" status. If it is just a little larger than 4" then all it gets is a big "yawn".
