I agree with supratentorial on the whole: the bowtie, as placed in the photo, is too close to the centre pin. It just looks too big and symmetrical for the serpentine frame, it does not match the understated quality of the shadow pattern. The long bomb is big enough, and proportional to the frame, and references Canal Street's Schrade heritage.
The short bomb is a good second choice.
I'm glad Eric convinced the employers to with a pinned shield in any case.
 
I just think the Bow Tie looks more natural and for some reason it makes the Scales stand out and makes the Knife look
better from end to end.**
 
I voted for #1 in a nod toward Canal Street's heritage, plus it's a great fit for a serpentine handle. Same can be said for #2 (I went back and forth on both). The bowtie shield just doesn't do it for me, but I'm in for a couple, regardless :)

You're right, Jake. I guess what I mean is that of those offered, #1 is the closest to the shield used on the pictured Schrades.
 
Nos 2 and 3 have also been used on Schrade knives...I'm not sure about No 4. I don't recognize 4 but others might. No 2 was used on Uncle Henry stock knives. No 3 has been used on Schrade Cut Co cattle knives (among other patterns) but I'm not sure if it was also used on stock knives. No 3 has also been previously used on a CSC stockman made for another forum. I think those shields were actually from the old Schrade factory. There are dealers that have stockpiles of shields and other parts from the Schrade factory. I don't know the source of these shields.
 
If you're not logged in and bring up this thread, you can see the results of the poll even if you haven't voted yet. So, I logged out, saw that the short bomb was gaining on the bowtie, and cast my vote for the bowtie. As someone on page one said; "A special event calls for a bowtie."
 
#One seems too small for the frame
#three is a tad long,
#two...the long bomb is just right.

Besides when I followed football, it was during the Elway era, and he did the long bomb so well.
 
Maybe it is just me, but I have a hard time liking 3 and 4 on a knife that is not symmetrical.
 
While I would have preferred no shield to let the beauty of wood through (I'm still not sure about shields in general, but at least it isn't that god awful cloud shield GEC uses to cover up its beautiful wood), I picked the bow tie. After studying the pics I went to quick glances to see what caught the eye the best, and it was the Bow tie. To me the others are just to abrupt if that makes sense, none seem to flow with the knife the same way. If only there was a "~" shaped bar type shield!

If bow tie wins I get all of my first choices on this knife- weird!!!

PS- I just looked at the last two polls, and discovered we have lost about 100 polling members per poll, so if the trend continues there aren't many people left to cast their vote.

If the bowtie is chosen, I do hope that they can center it over the pin. I didn't even see the pin when I first looked and voted
 
#1 Short bomb. The Bowtie will have to slide farther up from the center pin and imho won't look as good. Short Bombs away!! :D
 
pity the votes on the bombs are split, perhaps an intermediate sized bomb would best represent the desire of the group? :)

I don't think the contest is over, short bomb is not that far away from bowtie.
 
I like a longer sheild for this design and if a long bar was offered I would go for that, but the bowtie just doesn't look right to me for some reason whereas the short sheild looks super-clean on that knife.
 
Oh, man. There's no way to change a vote once cast, is there? :o

Yesterday I voted for the bowtie, because it looked like the old-timey Schrade or NYKC shields. Now I'm looking at the pictures and I don't know what I was thinking. The short bomb just looks so much better to me today.

Oh well, if it's a close vote, you short-bombers can blame me. :(
