I think most our 'civilian' casualties are from the merchant marine, supplying Britain with war materials and getting sunk by the Germans.

Public opinion. It's marvelous stuff. America had not yet left its isolationist stance and was reluctant to enter WWll. That would not happen today. If Britain were attacked we'd be there. And yes, I'll say it; England is in Iraq.
Tony Blair earned a place in history for that.

Well history always writes the victors as the right & morale , long term.

We shall have to see , what the next 20 years throws forth.

I have a feeling the world wont be becoming a better place.

Well, how about this? Radical Islam has the spotlight now and is living it up. Look at us, look at us. But give that enough time, and in the world press, and even in the biased Middle Eastern presses, they are going to look bad- eventually.

So people/nations will self correct. I hope. For that to happen, though, the world will have to make value judgements.

That sounds like something my grandfather would say, falling squarely in the "call them on not being specific enough" department. We learned a lot from that man, not all of it useful. :)
