Decent looking knife there.

If you have any clout with the Chinese manufacturer/s you should tell them that if they really want a nice piece of this market they should continue to strive for their own designs, as folks tend to respect that , such as the pictured knife. Also , blade steel specifics are important to many of us , such as type of steel used and RC.

Problem is the Chinese brands don't really design knives for western markets. I was thinking of a venture of contracting them(like spyderco and benchmade) and have them create a knife to my specs, but I figured i would at least need 30k to invest with them for an initial run. I was not planning on using high end steels nor anything like that, but perhaps something with a titanium frame lock, g10, flipper under the $70 price point.

Cool! I kick off a week in Beijing tomorrow and I am hoping I can scope out some good regional blades rather that what's made for the US market. Actually wondering if I'll have the time to find a maker....

That knife in the photo looks really nice.

Thanks so much for sharing, I really like the handles scales on that knife. I doNt think you are really missing out that much, so many of the Chinese made knives are of very high quality, and they offer excellent value. The brands you listed Like Sanrenmu, Enlan, Bee, Ganzo are all great. My personal favorite is CAS Hanwei, they make some amazing blades, and very original designs.

Looking forward to seeing more knives from
The Chinese market.

Been tempted to try out a Sanrenmu or an Elan as a beater knife, just have not gotten around to drop 15 bucks on them, but from what I hear they're certainly worth it

Do you make any good fixed blades over there? Böker Plus has some nice looking Chinese fixed blades, but I think they're too expensive for Chinese ones. If someone like SRM started making fixed blades on their own, I think they could put out some very high value pieces. Kind of like how SRM's models cost half of a Spyderco Tenacious, but have comparable quality.

Are you listening, China?

If you use QUALITY steel, properly heat treated and ground, combined with a solid lock you will sell more knives and can charge more for them.

Every Chinese knife I've handled has been crap and would not take or hold an edge. I really was hoping for a nice inexpensive OTF switchblade, and while you seem to have the mechanism down fairly well the blade itself won't even work as a passable letter opener. If you can make a good OTF with a quality blade that actually cuts paper without dulling you'll be onto something and I will buy a dozen. Blade steel, hardness, and grind are more important than aesthetics.

I can't help you with the OTF, but check out Hanwei's Rock Creek knives, both folding and fixed. Great stuff from a Chinese company with a Taiwanese owner who really cares about his work. I've met and spoken with Paul Chen and his son, Ron, a couple of times and they are amazing and humble folks who are fully committed to their work. :)

Do you have their website, I really want to check their knives?
thank you advance

Tyr,

The brands shown here (SRM, Enlan) are comparable to medium class folder (i.e. Tenacious as example). Not crap.
Some threads on this subforum about it can be easily searched ;)
