Le Thiers Knife

Thanks JD, and the one thing cool about Le Trappeur...it makes Le Compagnon appear normal and Le Compact...really small lol
which is strange as they have about the same length of blade, but the handles are much different.

Thanks Victor, they truly are lovely knives, all three fit in different carry days, will give the larger one some more carry time since she's new to this part of the world, I posted this in the Hat & Knife thread, but thought it would also fit here as well, give some feel as to the size of Le Trappeur;

You are most welcome, Sir. You can see that's one hefty knife, compared with the brim. Good comparo shot.

Thanks, showed it off to the folks at work today, they thought it was pretty cool and also a bit on the heavy side, but then, it is a large and beefy folder!

a couple shots of the family;

the larger one is Le Trappeur a mid lock and the smaller one nestled against it's big brother is Le Compact, both sport 13c26 sandvik stainless and take a razor sharp edge...both are by Philippe Chambriard out of Le Thiers France, nice work.

and an open blade resting on my hat...

Here are my two Le Thiers knives, i first bought the Compact and then i ordered the Companion,as it only takes a few days for a package to arrive from France i was not best pleased when the Compact developed side to side blade play while i was waiting, i nipped it up gently in the vice which fixed it but exposed the pivot pin, the Companion i have found too be to large for my taste,needless to say they do not get any pocket time. Oh well we live and learn, except we knife nuts dont do we ?

Great looking knives Gary. I have Le Trappeur with juniper scales. Will try to post a photo this weekend.

Gary this is the replacement i got for the "Gentleman"s category in my little French collection, mainly because i doubt i would have much luck sending the Thiers back.

That's a beautiful knife too, I've not had one like those yet, maybe someday I will give one a try.

Now, since you have something to fill your pockets, I would still make that attempt to contact the Chambriard's on getting that one looked at, as the one I had they made right in less than a weeks time and was very well done, zero blade play, and I am pretty picky :), you've nothing to lose and a nice knife to gain.

Gary thanks for the thought but as i look like having to sell on most of my French knives,i will probably just add the little knife as a bonus with one of the others.
I should probably add that i will be putting them on a different forum.

I can sympathize sir, once a knife has given a bad taste, it's hard to ever get that taste to go away, unless it goes away altogether ;).
I've had a few like that, not very many, but it can happen for sure.

Well, I had sold my stag scaled Compagnon and kinda missed it's size, go figure right? ;) Since I've seen others post their Juniper wood scales, I decided to save up my coin and pick up a Compagnon with Juniper scales, she arrived today !!! I had also had the Compagnon in both Horn and Ebony, but found the horn to be a bit slippery to me, very nice but slippery and the Ebony was great as it also has the decorative pin work on the one side, but all dark wood I guess is, well, dark, and I like seeing character in scale material, plus as everyone stated before, Juniper has a lovely peppery smell and boy does it!!! Love it!

Here are a few quick shots taken this afternoon;

Once I get my shop back up, I'll make a sheath for it to wear, as it arrived with a slip sheath but I prefer belt carry.

Nice work on this one!

Thanks sir, I'll get a better pic up sometime but yes, she's very nice!

Really like the way the scales were selected and placed on that knife Gary! The grain just flows really nicely with the shape of it :thumbup:

Thanks and yes, they did a great job on this one, here's a shot that shows the colour a little better;

Couple shots of how the back spring is formed, they forge the T portion so it sits wider than the spring itself, a bit more work involved but does create a nice effect too;
