Least amount you would spend$$$$$ ???

Thank you Gentlemen
:)

What I'm looking forward to is seeing what people are willing to spend on something that might save their lives.

So far--boots are 5-20 times more expensive(or worth more) than most people will pay for a knife

It's the ratio I'm most concerned with...

As in if you answered your knife was $10 and your boots were $50--then it's a 5 to 1 ratio.

I'll wait until this weekend to total up all the responses.

I'd trust the Randall Model 1 my friend picked up at a yard sale for fifteen bucks. ;)

These are the cheapest knives I would trust with my life.......
Busse:

Bushwacker Mistress Combat Grade $347.00
BOSS Street $227.00

Folder wise a Benchmade Griptilian for about $120.

Boots. I like the $100 mark. Merelles are good as well as Hi-Tech.

I know these seem high compared to other knives mentioned but I value my life pretty highly.

The least expensive I personally would trust my life with is an ESEE.
I have recently acquired an Izula, RC3, R4, and H.E.S.T. ... I am very impressed with ESEE, to say the absolute least!!!

Good post too, BTW. ;)

For me, boots would depend on time of year and climate. Whatever I chose would not be 'cheapies'. They would be rugged, comfortable, and substantial enough for the task at hand.

Need the value of the Knife -the amount you would spend

The model of the knife is not factored into this survey

List the amount you need to spend

See first post---not title

Thank You Sir:thumbup:

Let's see. Dropped into an TRUE wilderness area with no axe and only a knife.

Most of the time I'd say Mora. But here all we have is ONE knife. It must cut wood, make shelter, make the means of making fire, process food edibles and fish and game. A bit of prying and batoning perhaps.

I suspose the least expensive way to go would be to go into my shop and forge out an Hudson's Bay full tang blade out of some old studebaker springs I got for free or use an stick of new 5160H that is in stock.

Leave some forge texturing finish and cord wrap the handle. Figure on 2 belts for the KMG if you need it more refined.

That's around $17 for a full custom forged 5160 blade ( not figuring in my labor) that I can beat the hell out of, and let's throw in $10 for material to make me a leather sheath. Total of around $27 dollars. Let's just call it $30 for good measure.

Sounds like a good project.

Knife (Becker BK7) $39.00

Whoa - where can you get a BK-7 at $39 from? I have only seen them at $65-$70. Or are we talking about 2nd hand?

For survival with only one knife and no axe or saw I would probably go with something tough that I could trust and was capable of chopping and batoning - my preference would probably be my BK-9 worth about $65-$70.

However I could make do with cheaper knives and still be happy with the capability of my cutting tool. The cheapest that I would trust my life with? Maybe a Condor Machete at around $20.
