Leatherman Charge?

I think the difference for me is the blade steel. With 154CM I would feel comfortable using the Ti or XTi as my only knife. (Well maybe a small SAK too. Got to have the tweezers. ;) ) I suspect the street price will be considerably lower and the gap between the Wave and Ti models will close.

Does the new Wave have a pocket clip as well? If not, that would be another reason to go with the Ti series.

When the Wave first came out, I exchanged several E-mails with Leatherman, asking for an upgraded blade steel and a beveled finger hole. They said no one would buy it, and that it would cost far too much -- doubling the price. I'm glad they finally reversed their decision, and that the Charge will have a top-grade steel blade in place of the 420 steel. And the projected price is less than they had claimed it would cost, years ago.

One of the things I've noticed on the Charge Ti series, is that they'll have a nylon sheath that will also hold a small flashlight. (E2-e?)

Leatherman has this on their website in the tools description page. I'm assuming that the sheath is a bit different than the current sheaths that hold the tools and a mini Mag Lite.

Anyone have the inside scoop?

You can go here and get to the brochure about the charge. It shows a closeup of the sheath w/a flashlight in it. Looks to me like it will hold a small light like an ARC AAA

I think the Charges will be out first in late summer while the New Wave,Blast,Fuse and Kick will be released in the fall.
Yes the new Charge will come with both the lanyard ring and clip, the sheaths will be able to be worn both vertically or horizontally.
The Charge sheaths will have a small pocket on each side of the tool to enable you to put say a flashlight on one side and a small Eze-Lap sharpener on the other.
The new Wave sheaths will be much the same.
The Charge is the new leader in the multi-tool wars IMHO.
With the addition of the new steel, locking knives and tools, new improved scissors, reversible and removable bits, Titanium handles, new larger plier head(which will be standard on all the Leatherman full size tools)new sheath etc the price will be worth it for multi-tool users.
The retail will be very competitive as are all tools nowadays.
The new Wave is vastly improved.
Leatherman for my money has the best product and warranty in the business of mutli-tools.
Just my two bits worth

Kap :D

Charge & Wave do seem a bit too similar, one probably won't last long if there is a significant price difference. It's weird how there's almost no weight savings. With the ability to buy a bit kit separately, only the pocket clip and blade steel seem to make a difference. Personally, I always have a folder clipped to my right pocket, and the Wave sits in my left, so I have no reason to pick the Charge over the Wave. The improved steel for the blade may not be enough reason to abandon carrying a folder anyway. Even with the convenient placement, opening, and improved lock (we'll have to see though) it's still a relatively small blade protruding from a hefty multitool.

I think it's great that Leatherman is coming out with new products though, I'll be up to 5 of them when the new models are made available.

Slap me if I'm being silly, but I actually prefer the look of the old wave to any of the new models. I love the plain stainless finish, and the extra bit of weight just gives me a nice feeling, like I've got my moneys worth.

The locking levers on the Charge and new Wave are also sticking out ever so slightly which could snag on pockets, clothing etc... Plus the sheaths look slightly...slapped together.

I do however like the new blade and pliers, but for now, my traditional wave is staying on my belt! ;)

The XTi has a cutting hook in the serrated blade, a crimper on the pliers (for blasting caps, I believe), and 2 large bit drivers instead of just 1 like the Wave and Charge.

The XTi doesn't have scissors and the Ti does.

I like the new stuff, but not enough to replace my original SuperTool and tool adaptor. I really don't like it that I can't use standard 1/4" hex bits. I also like a separate tool adaptor because I can use it like a stubby screwdriver and I have a driver separate from my pliers. That is a combo that has worked way too well to change.

the wave's tool adaptor will work on the charge models, as leatherman says, if you want to know (this one is for old&new wave and charge models).

It would have been cool if leatherman had put a guthook on the Ti's serrated blade, but as I like the scissors and don't like the XTi's crimper, it will be the Ti for me (if I have enough money on the release).

lower prices for the charge models: $90 ant the wave: (not shipping outside US :( ): there (search "leatherman")

* I am greeedily rubbing my hands together* anyone preorder this yet?

I have four Waves scattered about. I need to send one in for possible repair (broken tips of pliers and PE blade), but I've used it a LOT. I'm planning on getting a Charge Ti when it comes out. I'd like to have the crimper on the XTi, but I want the scissors so Ti it is. I would have really liked a .5 to .75" longer version of the Wave so could exert a bit more force... Maybe someday. I agree that the sheaths look chintzy... Hopefully, they'll be better than they look.

I'm also worried about the quality of the new sheaths. I have an original Wave sheath (converted to horizontal carry). I believe Bianchi made them using their Accumold technology. I love the way that is keeps it shape, but is still pliable. It doesn't look like the new holsters are made by Bianchi; cheap nylon cordura+stretch cloth, probably. Wish they'd spring for another Bianchi run based on the new design.

Sigh, if I don't like the new Charge sheath I hope I can at least continue to use my Wave sheath.

i emailed leatherman about the release date for the CHARGE here in the UK and ive got to wait until November :( .But i guess it will be plenty of time for you guys to test it out for me :D

That Charxe XTi looks great but I still think I stick with my Super tool 200, mostly because of the price. The suggested retail price here in Finland is 168 euros about 180-200 dollars. The Leathermans finnish webpage sais that it will be released at july
