Leatherman Charge?

I dont know. I think I prefer the Xti. I have my Micra for scissor duty. Thats the only advantage I see the Ti has.

IF you like the Micra, try the Squirt with scissors. Basically the same size but all the items are accessible without opening up the scissors. And the scissor are very good -- stronger than the Micra's. Heck, they're better than the Charge scissors, imo. ;)

You are able to fit the Charge and the bits holder in the Wave sheath? For me, the Charge alone was a very snug fit?

I was able to get the bits in there, but it was a tight fit.

The thickness is about the same for the old Wave and the Charge but he Charge is wider because the two knife blades are taller and have large finger-catch openings on the Charge than the Wave. they are the reason that the Charge is roughly 3/8" wider when closed.

For size, strength and functionality, the Squirt scissors are the best ones out of the Wave, Micra, Charge Ti. The Wave scissors are a close second. Given what they've done tothe scissors on the Charge Ti, one should carfeully consider whether they should be a strong factor in deciding between the Ti and Xti. Personally, I do not think they should.

My guess is the scissors are smaller than on the old Wave to accomodate the longer plier-jaws on the Charge. So the New Wave undoubtedly will have the same scissors.

My Wave handles close smooth as silk and they actually *snap* closed when you have the two handles nearly closed. My Charge Ti doesn't, although it is not loose or floppy when closed. The tension mechanism on the handles/pliers when you open/close them is a diff design on the Charge than the old Wave. The tension is pretty strong unitl you get the Charge handles all the way open; then they move very freely, as plier jaws should.

Dude !!

All you really get with the XTi is an extra bit holder !!

:barf:

1) Scissors are essential !! So much that Vic introduced 2 extra versions of their SwissTool to incorporate them :)
2) Yup - but I also use a flat head driver as an improvised chisel, crate opener, scraper etc in which case having solid steel there instead of a bit is more practical :)
3) You can get extra bits if you need them so no big loss - just swap em over :)
4) See above :)
5) True - it pisses me off that LM didnt put the XTi blade into the Ti - but then there is nothing the hook can do that the other blades cant....
6) Invaluable if your going to crimp - but can be a pain in the ass if you need a full solid head on the pliers....

Conclusion ...... Ti's Kix Xti's Azz :D

Any recs on a good custom leather sheath maker? I just can't tolerate this elastic contraption anymore.

Most of the one's readily googled are either knife makers or gun holster companies, which would be okay except they don't seem interested in single custom orders.

Whereas it is not leather sheaths you might find it interesting to check out customized kydex sheaths at ;

I would gladly pay an extra $40 for that a 154cm blade.

That make a HUGE difference to me. I don't care about titanium or the modified tools as much as this one new feature.

I've never used the Leatherman sheath because my Wave fits perfectly into the leather knife holder on my PagerPal holster. So, I carry my Wave on the outside and my Glock 36 on the inside of my waistband.

It's really a nice arrangement.

A couple of guys here on the forums do custom leather sheaths.

Gary Graley and Lifter both do an excellent job.

Lifters site is here: http://hometown.aol.com/lifter4him1/myhomepage/business.html

And Gary's work can be seen here:

Oddly enough, the Charge Ti is an exact fit inside a Bianchi (leather) clip-on holster for 9mm/.40 double-stack magazines. That is how I have been carrying mine and I think it would be a combination difficult to improve on. Also not too expensive and very well made.

Do you have a link to such a holster? I have been looking for one to replace the crummy one that Leatherman supplies.

J

I got mine today, OMFG it is awesome!! I cannot believe this thing....

*wave goes into garbage!*
