I want 5 MP and I don't really want to spend more than 400. - 450. I know that's broad but I didn't want to focus on something and just get a nod if that makes sense? I would appreciate your honest opinion.

Actually, I do know a little bit about the subject, because my best friend wanted me to pick the right digicam in the $400-500 dollar range for her to photograph her infant daughter.

I chose the Canon S400. It is only 4 megapixels, but it had better picture quality than the newer S450 with 5 megapixels, because it had larger pixels on the sensor, and thus more ral information per pixel. It does great for 4"x6" prints of baby snapshots. It allows full manual for folks like me, who prefer total control over the image. It has (low quality, of course) video capture, with sound, which can be pretty cool.

You can pick one up used for below your $400 dollar price range.
