Let's Congress

I really like this knife. Reese nailed it and Kerry did a great job as usual shooting it.

As I look at this beautiful knife, I can't help but think that this is pretty close to what our Forum Knife is going to look like this year, except for the number and lengths of the blades.

I've returned to this thread because I have always considered the congress a gentleman's knife. It looks sophisticated and refined to me. The blades are generally pretty small and lend themselves to detailed work. Indeed in my last post in this thread I referred to them as such.

Well I just spent eight hours in the garden with my latest acquisition cutting, trimming, cleaning, scraping, gouging and slicing everything required effortlessly.

Pete, I agree with you. This is a working pattern, masquerading as a gentleman.

It took me a while to realize it, but when I carried stockmans at work 99% of the time I used the sheepsfoot blade, and the large Boker congress, the sheepsfoot blade is a substantial contender, it feels good in the hand, carries nice in the pocket plus two springs same as a stockman but you get four blades, ( with almost no crink in the blades ) love using the coping blade for detail work, it's like having a razor knife.

This is a dangerous thread, as I find myself doing too much looking at a certain Northwoods Congress. I already have some others incoming but the one I'm thinking about has my finger very itchy :D

Oh, I like that.

That should be in every description/ad copy of a Congress knife. :)

It's so true, like a rugby match, a thugs game played by gentlemen. I have been very impressed with this boker over the last couple of days.

I hope nobody minds me resurrecting this thread, I love the congress pattern and keep reading over it.

I have been trying to find a small congress without success. Does anyone know of a congress with carbon blades that is about 3.25 inches when closed? I think the pattern lends itself to gentlemanly pursuits but the size of my congress knives are not suit pocket friendly.

Any help is appreciated,

Paul

Edit - it has just occurred to me that I might be breaking forum rules here, if this is the case, please feel free to PM me or Mods feel free to vanish this post.

I don't mind, I meant it to be a running commentary on the pattern that seems to get overlooked, it's one of my favorites, and I like seeing the different blade setups and sizes.

Pete

Currently I only own one Congress, this Case second cut bone stag handled SOF from 1993 (roman numeral date stamp series). The Congress is a pattern I like, am learning more about, and intend to own more examples as the right knives present themselves. I'm enjoying this thread - lots of nice variations to view. OH

Oh that's nice. Love the long pulls.

I think the Case mini Congress is right at 3", the Eye Brand half Congress I just got (with carbon blades) is 3 1/2" or thereabouts. Their medium Congress is listed at 3 1/2" too.

Seeing this thread made me break out my GEC/Northfield Half-Congress. It was the 1st GEC knife I ever bought, but I have never carried it. The tip of the pen blade stuck up just enough to snag you. So I finally decided to fix it. Little bit of sanding and now it sits flush. Plan on carrying it this week. Normally not a stag fan, but this one was too nice to pass.

I only have a couple and this is one of them. Very elegant knife. More for carrying in a suit or tux.

Hey Paul (pmew) - Didn't you say earlier that you had a Boker Congress on the way? Do you have it yet and if so, where are the pictures? Inquiring minds want to know.:)

Picked up this little Schrade recently...apparently it was a sales sample. Wasnt taken care of so it has some discoloration on it. Little 3" Congress. Nice little carry.
