I'm just down the road from Buck. The first knife I ever bought with my own money was a Buck (oldest daughter has it now). I've owned and carried Bucks for 40 odd years.
And I would throw money at Buck if they just had what are for me, more functional refinements to existing designs. Or options anyway. More full flat grinds, especially on some of the hunting models. I mean, those PakLites, without the recurve and a with a FFG blade would be simply amazing. I like them, but for me, they come up short there. I'd also like to see more "grippy" handle materials, preferably in blaze orange and the like on some hunting models. I love the 102, 103, etc. but it would be awesome to have them in an optional handle material. Maybe FRCP or some such.
And then I'd really like to see some attention paid to the sheaths. I know that is silly to some, but to me it is important. Many of their designs allow the blade to slice across the strap on extraction and that is problematic for me. If I'm buying my daughter a knife to slap on her hip and pack deep into the Blue Mountains, I want to know she doesn't have to worry about a strap failing (from time, not all at once) or the knife getting free if she slips and falls.
In no way am I bashing Buck. I could care less about all the "super steel" demands and applaud Buck for being to stay competitive. I will be buying more Bucks, I just wish I was going to be buying A LOT more Bucks. I see Buck as the working-class knife. Rugged, dependable, purpose-driven users. Yes, they have beauties in the lineup and such but overall, for me, Buck has always been in the user category and that's exactly why I love them. So I'm not looking so much for new designs, just some tweaks or added options to existing ones.
My thoughts are meant as constructive feedback and not blind complaining.
