As the title says pick only 2 (let's go against the grain of the often used 3)...

If you could pick only 2 (two) knife companies to buy from for the rest of your life (can't buy any knife made outside of those 2). What would they be and why?

Mine would be

1. Cold Steel - for their designs, tough as nails products, their AUS8a (which is actually my favorite "lower end" steel). If you can get around their mall-ninja stereotype they actually have amazing functioning knives

2. Spyderco - for their aesthetics, designs, spyderhole (one of the greatest inventions in folding knives, next to Triad Lock), customer service and their own S30V (my favorite all around steel.

And go!

I should prefix this with saying that I have owned over 200 knives now from high-end CRK's and Striders to the seemingly lower end Gerber and everything in between.

Ka-Bar - You've got Becker, Johnson, Dozier, and the kabar line all tied up in there. Heck, I could probably go with just them and be set.

KAI - Same as above, great products, great company. Kershaw, Shun, ZT...pretty much covers all my needs here, as well.

Hmmm...I'll cheat a little.

1. Kai (then I get acess to Kershaw, ZT and Shun right? LoL)
2. Spyderco

I'll play today.

1. KAI
2. Benchmade

Both companies offer a wide variety of folders and fixed blades, plenty of price ranges.

Agree with the Ka-Bar, and I was just going to say Becker, but Ka-Bar is the company so we're covered! :) All their blades have been solid, and affordable.

Second would be Spyderco. Their steels, locks, and egros are appealing to me. I consistently find myself adding more to the list.

KAI, as long as they maintain U.S. manufacturing.

Bark River Knives, because I really like their variety of fixed blades.

This. Everything would definitely be covered.

Read my mind.

NO DOUBT Kabar would be my number one choice! Duh. Even if Kabar only offered Becker, it would still be 1st choice. BKT is an obsession
Benchmade would be a close second, largely due to their high quality blades, huge assortment and unsurpassed customer service.

Fantoni- great knives and outstanding quality. I've heard them referred to as the Italian CRK.
Strider- i think the SNG might be the last piece of the puzzle in my knife collection. I love the ergos, they're rock solid knives and lots of nifty configurations.

Kershaw so I can have access to ZT and now Emerson-designed models, and Benchmade.

That's really hard! Benchmade, Emerson, Spyderco and now ZT are my top 4.

Spyderco has the coolest selection, Benchmade great CS, quality and the axis-lock, ZT has great designs coming out in 2014 and my 0566 is a little tank, and my Emerson CQC8 is by far my favorite knife, period.

But I don't feel the need to buy more than 1 Emerson like I do all the others.

Yup. Spyderco for folders, Ka-Bar for fixed blades. That would pretty much keep me happy.

AH! This is hard.

1. Ka-bar for the ridiculously strong blades at very reasonable prices.

2. Gerber... JUST KIDDING!

Second would be Leatherman I find that a good multi-tool serves more purposes around the house than a single blade. AND the blade on the wave is very usable.

Oh! and the bk11 from BK&T is very good for EDC, so that's covered.

Benchmade for the designs and warranty and Cold Steel...name another company that has that much variety or who has that much fun with their products ;)
