Walnut creek drive isnt to early last 2 weekends i have been leaving the house here and towing the boat to berkely to fish for halibuts in San Fran bay. been geting up at 3 in morning for those. did back to back trips 2 weeks ago with 4 hrs sleep in 3 days. Also wanted to get it going kinda early sice folks in Cali know in late june it can be super hot. doesnt mean u have to be here at 7 on the dot whenever u feel like rolling up is cool with me. Pete
 
needed to revive this as june 29th gets closer. Talked to old wolfe who is willing to also host this he is about 1 hr up the hill from me. Also since he has elevation it will most likely be much cooler at his place. No matter what will still be an early start. If you are serious about coming say so. Also i can carpool 3 people comfortable from Citrus Height area. Need to get a count on what to bring as far as food and drinks. Will also be doing up some damascus billets also. Pete
 
Count me in. I can definitely go. Just let me know what to bring. Have a forge and anvil that can travel. Glad this didn't go by the wayside. Looking forward to it.

M.Griffin Ill be bring my forge and anvil if u come to my house we can carpool save on high dollar diesel. try and be at my house around 6ish. Bring your hammers and any tongs u want to bring. im going to bring some brews and soda and probably some brats also.

Hey, Things are looking up. Let me know if you guys want to be cooler and come up to Alta. Usually 15 degrees cooler up here and lots of room, but an hour more drive. Whatever, I'll be there or here.

Hmmm... I cant dedicate until I know the location. Ill be driving my Lightning (big ol 400hp premium gas guzzlin f-150) so cost is an issue. When I saw Cen Cal I was hoping for the valley... :( My sis lives in SF so maybe I could make it into some sort of hammer in/family visit? Anyway please nail down the location (the lower, the better) and Ill commit, or not. :( Id REALLY like to do this and meet some of you guys and maybe even walk away with a new knife! :) Hell Ill even call up Mike Vagnino (master smith) and see if he would like to carpool with me!

Man I hope I can be a part of this...

I had talked to old wolfe on tuesday and got go ahead to do it up there. im 1 hr from him down the hill. until we had a real count didnt want to make a location set. so as far as im concerned and per my conersation with old wolfe i think his place is best and also alot cooler which is a factor. SO that being said i can carpool from my place. my adrees and number are listed above. Since i started and old wolfe is gracious enough to host it im going to bring up a big ice chest full off drinks and plan on bbqing. I have a full size 4 door dodge diesel 03 so i can carpool besides myself 3-4 more guys and a bed full of gear. bring your hammer or whatever u think u will need i have a mini press the one floating around don fogg forum and old wolfe has a large compressor so should be able to do up some stuff on it. im going to bring a slew of metals.

Well, it's finalized. It's going to be here at my place in Alta, Ca. We're at 4000 ft right off I-80, so it will be cooler than the valley. We've got acreage so not going to bother anyone. Hope you guys can do some carpooling to share the fuel prices.
Pete is bringing most of his shop up. :D I have a crummy cheapo anvil and a Forge, Grinders, compressors. Bring your own stuff if you want. We have lots of room in front of the shop. Okay, start time is 7am? might be abit early. How kid friendly is this likely to be if I bring my 5 year old son (I don't have to, by any stretch, just pondering, and he might be distracting to me)

Any workshop ideas? I'll probably bring a few finished blades and talk about how I glue up and my hand peening of pins and lanyard tubes if anyone wants.

Looks like we have enough forges, but I can bring a charcoal for fun and I have that new 3 burner propane. I won't unless asked.

I'm still looking for a decent anvil, myself.

If anyone needs stock I will bring up a lawnmower blade for donation and a couple pieces of 5160 1/4 inch flat bar stock. (I'd have to ask for what I paid for it, but you won't believe how cheap that was.)

IF IF IF my 1084 gets in I'll want to rough forge a few long blades on a real anvil! If it's in, I can bring up extra.

I've got 3x 36inch high carbon cable for making damascus, but I haven't done it yet.

I'll bring something to throw in the pot for food and drinks.
 
folks bring your hand tools. hammers tongs gloves that type of stuff. finished blades to pass around and critique is something i think we should all do. Im going to bring up some 1084, 5160,52100, and dons W2. ill have 2-3 smallish billets welded toghter and plan on doing hopefully 2 -3 billets of some 300-400 layer raindrop pattern damascus. im bringing alot of stuff but it sounds like at this point with body count will maybe need an extra anvil . looks good on forges at this point. originally at my house had a planned start of 7 ish due to valley heat, with it being in alta now i think 7-8 ish is good start mozzie on in whenever u show up. its informal for a reason , we wont sit you in a corner if your not on time.

sry u cant make it strig, i feel you on the gas i'm taking the boat out fishing tomorrow and to fill my boat and truck it cost me almost 400 dollars to fill both they were both empty. 36 gallons of diesel and 50 gallons of gas. ouch. i think my credit card started to cry lol. anyways if this works out good i hope to try and make this an annual thing.
 
Diesel has taken the hardest hit imo, I mean I never looked at the prices for the stuff because I never needed it but holy crap its expensive around here!

Dont ya just love the national averages and the crying meanwhile we seem to be the ones pushing the numbers... My dad in Missourri pisses me off every time I call and he loves to rub it in lol :D Ah well its all in good fun because he willed his whole estate to me INCLUDING the big ass shop he had built and filled with power tools he has never used. God love him :D
 
Sorry guys...we looked at gas useage for the drive up to Alta and back.

We're on a driving vacation all July 4th week so I'm going to have to pass...wish it was closer~!

If it makes any difference, I am in Jackson (~3 hrs from Tulare) and could drive the difference if you make it to my place. That applies to anyone interested.

I can also bring my 125 lb Peter Wright and stump. It isn't a perfect anvil by any means, but it works.
