Lets see some Hinderer action

Okay, does anyone know when the next drop of Half Tracks will be? Want a certain one not out now, but if not coming out til Summer I am going to spend the money I have aside for one on something else and save up again for one later. If just around the corner, then I will hold off.

And btw, I like that stonewashed DLC as well.

The next batch of Half Tracks are going to be Gen 2 Tri Way Spearpoints. They are coming incredibly soon. I honestly thought we would have ours today but they had a slight set back and I don't think it will be more than a week unless they jump something in front of it.

I absolutely love stonewashed DLC.
Even when it's ugly, it's pretty.
I love that iridescence

Love that you and others are talking about this Stonewashed DLC from Hinderer. Some old school Hinderer folks are a bit shy to it and most folks do not understand it. It is incredibly durable and after a day of abusing the heck out of it, it cleans up to look brand new. We are working on some video content with it currently. Hope to get it out soon!

The pic and description of it are awesome!

Hey Whitty. Any idea if you are getting some gen 6 xm 18 non flippers anytime soon?

I really, really don't need another Hinderer, but I'm tempted. Is this finish the same or similar to the black stonewash finish that ZT put on their 0801 model awhile back? If it is, then yes, it holds up very well to use.

Definitely not like KAIs Blackwash - more black and shiny with less metal “scratches” shining through.

Both are awesome finishes though. Wish more ZT knives were available in Blackwash.

Anybody notice how the Blue/Black G10 scales are completely hit and miss between samples and sizes?
I ordered an XM-18 3.0 Blue/Black scale to match my 3.5 Blue/Black scale and the 3.0 is completely different.
There’s like hardly any blue whatsoever on the scale - looks almost like a textured CF scale. Like a dirty black, with little to no blue color to be found. It’s going back.
Digging into it, I’ve found that’s the case with a lot of the 3.0 scales, but not all. Almost as if Hinderer might’ve had a bad run of the 3.0s. BHQ even goes so far as to call the 3.0 B/B “Dark Blue/Black”. Which mine is far worse than anything pictured on their site. Green/Black I’ve noticed has a similar thing going.
Example - both of these 3.0s are called Blue/Black G10:

^^ I would’ve possibly been ok if mine had even that much blue in it, but it doesn’t.

Thx Whitty. I will be checking your site often. Want one of those for sure.

Not a great pic, but here is an 801BW flanked by the new Stonewashed DLC. The new finish is much shinier than the BW, almost mirrored like Hinderer's regular stonewash. It is very difficult to photograph, and really has to be seen in person to be fully appreciated IMO. It can be light or dark depending on the lighting and sometimes it looks almost like pewter.

That's because they use different batches of G10 with different layer thicknesses and shades. They all come out of the mill slightly different. You can always ask a dealer if they'll look for one with the most blue on it, or look for a more blue one to come up on the secondary market.

Here's another pic of Stonewashed DLC vs Battle Black. The BlackWash finish is somewhere in between the two in my experience. This was a picture I took a while back for a forum member regarding a choil vs no choil edge length question.

I agree. Pictures just don’t do this finish justice. Like KVT said, it’s almost like a black chrome color. This is my first knife with this finish and I really like it. More so than their regular DLC or battle black. I have knives in both of those finishes, as well.

I’m with the others. I have a ZT with the black wash finish and they are very different. Not even close.

Or is black/blue the same as blue/black, or no such a difference?

Man, when Whitty said like pewter he almost had me. I love the look of pewter. Sadly, I don't like XM's. So, whew, dodged a bullet there.

Got a gen 4 harpoon spanto xm18 from a member on here. Its my first hinderer and I'm glad a chose a gen 4 (thanks to the recommendation of some people on here). The knife has broken in and is now unbelievably smooth for being on PB washers. The detent is just strong enough that it effortlessly flips open, not as fast and hard as a bearing knife would but I really like the buttery swinging gate action feel it has, and the blade falls shut in a very hydraulic way with one slight shake. I really don't see how bearings would be any better. Another thing I really like is how wide of an adjustment margin there is for smooth action and zero blade play, and how easy the lock bar is to disengage with no lockstick ever. My only complaint is how thick the edge geometry is, but I can fix that with a regrind. Also want to add that I've heard complaints about the flipper tab being sharp combined with the jimping when you hit the flipper but I haven't found this to be an issue at all even if I sit there and flip the knife to an hour straight.
