Lets see some Hinderer action

I sharpened a spyderco para2 in 204p and my no choil m390 in the same day and the m390 was noticeably easier to remove much more metal bringing it down to 18dps, I even posted it in another thread, however I was actually saying how much harder that particularly 204p blade was then other S90v, s110v, and M4 blades I have sharpened in the past so I'm not sure if my m390 was softer then normal or that 204p blade was just harder then normal?

Hmm. Interesting. I noticed this as well. Didn't want to say anything until I gave it more time. I'm having to touch up the edge way more than I should in my opinion. I hand sharpened my edge. I opened a bag of belts for my grinder and it was like I took the edge and pressed it into the grit. The edge was very jagged. It sharpens easy though! Couple passes on the extra fine DMT and it is good to go. Just not what I was expecting from M390.

I use a Work Sharp and it definitely touched up quickly and easily with a high grit belt.
I'd just prefer to not have to worry about touching it up frequently.

I'd guess the M390 is pretty dang soft.

I don't remember seeing a hardness in the description when I bought mine and I'm pretty sure DLT posted in a thread that they could ask RHK. I wonder if they ever did. I'm quite curious now. It will be interesting to see if other users find the same thing.

Interesting about the M390.

The only real experience I have with it is in a Reate Horizon. It behaves "normally" you could say with no issues and holds a good edge. I never felt I had to touch it up too frquently. I think the hardness is 60--perhaps a hair more.

In a 20cv xm18 3.5 spearpoint I have, this too has no problems. I know that Rick's 20cv is under 60 hardness as compared to his S35VN run at 60 to 61---still though it holds an edge very well. M390 and CPM20CV are said to be the same more or less. I wonder if this batch of M390 was run a point or so softer to make it tougher maybe? Perhaps a heat treat issue?

I've been getting awfully close to pulling the trigger on one of the m390 XM-18s. I sure hope there isn't some sort of heat treat issue with the steel....

I would love to hear more feedback from current owners.

Likely y'all are experiencing a burnt edge from the result of belt sharpening...very common on production blades...should get better once you sharpen past it.

I've never had Cts204p,20cv, or m390 perform in the manner once I've reprofiled and put my own edge on it.

I agree, haven't had any problem with with mine after re profiling but didn't use it before, I reprofiled it before I really used it on anything.

The new addition to the herd once it arrives, figured I'd add a lil variety to the collection with the blue ano lock side...but had to have the trans green scale lol. Now to plan out my accessories lol...

O and shout out to curtis for the sweet filler tab that'll be going on it.

That's encouraging, I hope you're right. :thumbup::thumbup:

I wasn't directly given the hardness on the blades but I believe it was posted in their facebook group, I'll have to see if I can find it.

Rob had told me they built and tested several knives before mailing them to us, and that the testing results were excellent for edge retention. He also thought customers would have a hard time sharpening them because it took more work and time for them.

Thanks for the info.
I wasn't complaining, hope it didn't come off that way. Just posting my observations after use.
I'm actually expecting another in the mail from you today (should've been Tuesday, USPS is quite slow this week).
