A set of three XM-18 handle screws cost $12, which you can find on my dealers' sites. It should be very easy to replace. If the broken piece gets stuck in the nut, you may need to buy a set of three handle nuts (also $12). Or maybe take this opportunity to buy and install some anodized ti hardware of your choice.![]()
For what it's worth, my experience:
- Hinderer scale screws are quite soft, and break easily (which is why I use 6-32/.188 Ti Torx screws from TiConnector - love those, harder than my Wiha Torx drivers)
- It's actually difficult to find stainless XM scale screws. The couple of dealers who carry them (DLT and monkeyedge), are typically out of stock (like DLT is now). When you see them, buy a couple immediately.
- When you break a scale screw, take the nut out immediately. It breaks about a mm outside of the nut, so it's easy to take the broken piece out.
- Funnily enough, anodized Hinderer Ti scale screws are available almost everywhere. And if you de-anodize them (to a less shiny grey than stainless), they are actually harder than the stainless screws.
