Lets see some Hinderer action

A set of three XM-18 handle screws cost $12, which you can find on my dealers' sites. It should be very easy to replace. If the broken piece gets stuck in the nut, you may need to buy a set of three handle nuts (also $12). Or maybe take this opportunity to buy and install some anodized ti hardware of your choice. :)

For what it's worth, my experience:
  • Hinderer scale screws are quite soft, and break easily (which is why I use 6-32/.188 Ti Torx screws from TiConnector - love those, harder than my Wiha Torx drivers)
  • It's actually difficult to find stainless XM scale screws. The couple of dealers who carry them (DLT and monkeyedge), are typically out of stock (like DLT is now). When you see them, buy a couple immediately.
  • When you break a scale screw, take the nut out immediately. It breaks about a mm outside of the nut, so it's easy to take the broken piece out.
  • Funnily enough, anodized Hinderer Ti scale screws are available almost everywhere. And if you de-anodize them (to a less shiny grey than stainless), they are actually harder than the stainless screws.
Cheers,

Roland.

My xm-18 3.5 and my xm-24 don't have the battle bronze in the 2nd pic any longer.... Have a new one in the mail right now too.... great knives!

Have any of you ever tried a Battle Anodized Scale with a stonewashed lockside? Does it looks weird?

Recently bought this BNIB M390 no-choil in stonewash DLC from a collector. Although I am Dutch, the orange is pretty intense. Any suggestions for a cool other color combined with some new hardware? Due to the price I would like to stick with G10, maybe micarta.

The combo that I had in mind was purple scale with brass hardware

Picked up this O.D. Green XM-24 recently and decided to bolster my collection of big boy knives with another tough guy (in CPM Cru-Wear):

I almost went for the DLT drop for the full TI, I already have an AD20 in 3V so I passed.. hoping that people that really wanted one managed to get one. All of them sold out in maybe 2 minutes...

Not sure where to vent but I am close to parting way with my skinny xm-18 3.5"s due to unavailability of RHK scares and hardware. It is a joke that a brand known for customizability while the parts for doing so have been unavailable for two+ years correct?

I feel you, that's why I went the route I did for my XM-24. The couple of times I contacted RHK direct, they seemed almost lackadaisical in their responses to me. My last question (2nd) didn't even get a response (XM-24 TI scale availability). I'm not the type to endlessly ask stupid questions and waste time because I get enough of that, but if did not at least reply to questions at my place of business that would not look good with my employer.

I wanted the G-10 for the Cru-Wear knife. I plan on picking up a full Ti in the near future.

I feel your pain, the skinny line is one or the most unappreciated of all the hinderers imo. Such a great knife and actually slicy enough for me, light enough to carry in shorts and durable enough for my work days in commercial hvac. But scales and hardware are hard to come by, I've had to branch out to 3rd party scale companies.

I may still bite if I can find a full Ti version as that's what I typically like, with black G10 it's still a great knife.

I've had several conversations with John Demko recently talking about various things knife related and otherwise. It looks like they'll have a number of releases with different steels going forward...some which will be exclusives either with dealers or through their own shop.

3V is what I initially was hoping to get my hands on, but Cru-Wear hits a sweet spot for me, so I'm pleased to have been able to pick it up.

I fear we may have sidetracked the conversation more than intended. My apologies.
