Lets see some Hinderer action

I would ask my wife to but she might do a search and see how much the knife costs, lol. Right now it's just a thing that cuts stuff that sits next to the thing that shoots stuff.

lmao Yeah do not open that can of worms. If I had any baking prowess I would bake it for the thread, but....

Very wise man!

So I recently purchased a wicked edge and I practiced on about 6 knives, stated or with my spyderco persistence, then I did my son's pm2, then 4 kitchen knives. Wanted to do my hinderers and strider but needed to wait for my angle cube. It showed up today so I went ahead and gave them a proper sharpening. I love the wicked edge! Not quite a mirror finish but it's wicked sharp!

(Forgive the addition of the strider in this forum)

So I just got my first xm-18 and it's alright. The pros are it has a good detent and is very smooth/looks almost new.. the cons are minor lock stick, detent has play if you pull on the blade just a little while it's closed... What's this knife worth? 20cv blade is rare for xms yeah? Also, not a big deal but isn't this lockup a bit late for an xm? I've heard they should lockup quite early.

They're not rare at all, nor any more valuable...secondary market is low right now..i can get one nib for $320 right now...put pencil lead on the lock face for the stick

It looks like you mastered the Wicked Edge pretty fast. Great sharpening job on 2 great looking knives!
What's your address? I need to send you a few of mine for sharpening :D

How'd you fix it? 1/16" drill bit?
Nope no drilling, disassembled it and increased the tension on the lock bar a lil at a time until it was where i wanted it and lubed it up and put it back together. Will poilsh the pivot next.

The variation in detent is largely dependant on the pressure from the lock bar. Only time it needs to be drilled is when the detent ball is much larger than the hole in the tang...like if it only seats 10% or so ..

If the ball seats around 50% and has loose detent then it just needs the lock bar adjusted.

I'd assumed that the weak detents were the result of the ball not lining up with and falling into the hole, hence a need to enlarge the hole.
I have an XM that has a noticeable gap between the lockbar and blade when closed because the ball isn't in the hole.
I don't think that increasing the lockbar tension would help that.

Here's how mine was, the lack of pressure from the lock bar was preventing the detent from being pushed into the hole..now it seats roughly 50% off the way.

You don't want it to sit flush as that makes for a very heavy detent without out a way to fix it other than replacing with a larger detent ball.
I have 2 like this and while they eventually break in and get easier it'll tear your finger up for a few months lol.

I din't have it with me, but I'm pretty sure I've tried to press on the lockbar and the ball doesn't seat any more.
I'll double check when I get home.
That's part of the reason I figured the placement of the hole was a bit off.

Increasing the tension won't seat it more then but will put the pressure it needs to firmly hold in there...

I realized it by disengaging the lock on one with good detent vs the weak one...the strong detent was noticeably harder to push over than the weak one...
