A single hole copper filler tab gets stuck on my XM-18 3.5" (won't come off easily after the screw is removed). What would be a better way to take it out?

I've never had a really badly-stuck one, but I usually insert something rigid but unlikely to create scratches or deform the tab itself into the screw hole and gently pry it out with that.A single hole copper filler tab gets stuck on my XM-18 3.5" (won't come off easily after the screw is removed). Yeah - never happened to me before either. Already tried the toothpick trick but thx anyway. Maybe next time when I disassemble the knife I can try to poke from the other side of the scale to see if it's gonna work. Not sure if it'll help to heat up the tab a bit.I've never had a really badly-stuck one, but I usually insert something rigid but unlikely to create scratches or deform the tab itself into the screw hole and gently pry it out with that.
See if the plastic toothpick from a SAK will do it, then graduate to a straight pin; that sort of thing.
A little heat from a hair dryer or along those lines couldn't hurt. You might try the end of something like a chopstick, something that's rigid and fully fills the screw hole space to really give you some more leverage to pry without scratching.A single hole copper filler tab gets stuck on my XM-18 3.5" (won't come off easily after the screw is removed). That seems like a better idea than heating now that I think of it, titanium has a very small coefficient of thermal expansion compared to most metals, copper included, so it could be that you get more contraction of the copper when freezing that could free it from the titanium scale. Please run the experiment and report backThis might sound weird. Try freezing the knife in your freezer.
After an hour, take the knife out and try to separate the pieces. If that does not work, try 2 hours, etc.
Occasionally this might affect metals or similar content, but smaller / larger in size and "stuck" components might be able to be separated

Man - how could I not think of this trick?Since it's single hole, push a needle/nail through the other hole, from the backside of the scale.
The best ideas tend to be like thatMan - how could I not think of this trick?

Agree, it’s my favorite finish. I got a xm slippy new from the ranch within the last year with the dlc, so it’s not too far in the past. Really hoping he does more of it!Does anybody know if Rick’s still doing Black DLC Stonewash (not Battle black) releases anymore?
I haven’t seen anything released with that finish in a long time. I’ve heard of other companies abandoning DLC for whatever reasons and am hoping Rick didn’t.
I’m holding out for another Ranch Bowie in BDLC but am staring at in-stock Battle Black one’s right now. I don’t care for the flat black of the Battle Black so much.
Hinderer’s BDLC is one of the coolest finishes in the knife world.
